The Curious Case of the Royal Family’s Christmas Card 2019!

Something for the fans this festive season!

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have kept their public relationship pretty much private since their marriage in 2018. Except for a few pictures from either side’s kin, we haven’t had much insight into the lives of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. But this festive season, the couple decided to give fans a beautifully curated Christmas Card.

They took to Twitter to send out the wishes!

The Commonwealth’s twitter account posted a super-cute GIF of the royal couple along with their son, Archie. It was a fresh look into the lives of this beautiful family. And fans were especially happy to see Archie, whom we last saw in Africa. E! reported that the picture was taken by Meghan’s friend Janina Gavankar.

The royal couple won’t be there for the Royal celebration!

It is reported by E! That the family will not be spending this Christmas like the last two years, in Sarighdham along with the rest of the royal family. Instead, they will be spending it with Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland in the United States.

This isn’t unprecedented though!

The Spokesperson for the couple said, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month,” And about the decision to not spend this Christmas in Sandringham, he said, “This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.”

Thanksgiving too was spent across the Atlantic

It seems like the couple is trying to develop a healthy relationship on both sides of the families. They spent Thanksgiving in Los Angeles, with Markle’s mother Doria Ragland and a source told E! that they went out of their way to ensure Doria’s involvement is duly reflected in their Christmas cards. The source also said “It is a break with the protocol from traditional royal Christmas cards, which haven’t historically included grandparents. For instance, Kate’s parents—Carole Middleton and Michael Middleton—have never appeared on any of their Christmas card images.”

And although it isn’t unprecedented for royal couples to spend Christmas with their respective in-laws (Prince William and Kate Middleton spent the Christmas of 2012 with Middleton’s family), Meghan and Prince Harry went above and beyond to showcase their love – something that fans all over surely appreciate.
