The Queen has responded to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive Oprah interview.
The couple’s two-hour interview with Oprah Winfrey came out a couple days ago, and has been making headlines ever since. It was packed with revelations and gave people new perspectives on Meghan and Harry and the Royal Family.
Although the Buckingham Palace did not immediately respond to the allegations, it has now released a statement on behalf of Her Majesty. “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” the palace said.
“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.”
“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members,” the statement added.
All eyes were on the Palace after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah
After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell Oprah interview, people were awaiting a suitable justification from the Buckingham Palace. The statement comes at a good time for the Royal Family’s silence was adding to the public furor surrounding the allegations, observers say.
Royal biographer Angela Levin had shared how the palace’s first preference has always been to steer away from controversies, to rise above them by staying silent. However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s charges are so damaging to the royal family that it will have to respond publicly, Levin added.
“The queen has a motto: Never complain, never explain,’’ she told The Associated Press. “And she’s stuck with this for four decades. But I think in this climate and 2021, everything goes everywhere. There’s so much social media that in this instance, she really can’t not say anything.”
During the sit-down, Meghan Markle also revealed how her mental health had suffered when she was with the Royal Family. At one point, she even contemplated suicide.
But even during such difficult times, Meghan received no support from the Royal Family.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Oprah interview has created quite a stir and has divided people across the world. Some say that it reflects the need for change within a centuries-old institution.
Others feel that the couple’s timing couldn’t be more wrong and that they should have been mindful of the situation at the palace. Their tell-all comes at a time when Harry’s 99-year-old grandfather, Prince Philip, remains hospitalized in London after a heart surgery.
