The Weeknd’s new HBO series is going to be a blast!
The Weeknd is slowly starting to venture into the world of acting and we couldn’t be more excited! The singer and musician has recently collaborated with hit teen drama series Euphoria’s writer Sam Levinson for a new HBO series. Let’s find out more!
The 31-year-old singer-songwriter is all set to co-write and star in a new TV series currently titled The Idol, according to reports. From what we know, the story will follow the life of a female pop star who starts a romance with a mysterious L.A. club owner who is also the leader of a secret cult.

Apart from starring in the show and co-writing it, The Weeknd will also serve as the executive producer for this new HBO series along with Reza Fahim and Sam Levinson. All three will be credited as the creators of the show. The show will also be written and executive produced by Joseph Epstein who will also serve as the showrunner. Mary Laws will write and co-executive produce. The show will be executive produced by Levinson via Little Lamb along with Ashley Levinson and Kevin Turen. Aaron L. GIlbert will executive produce via Bron Studios. Wassim “SAL” Slaiby and La Mar C. Taylor will be the co-executive producers of the show.
The Weeknd has confirmed this exciting news of him starring in the HBO series, on his social media as well. Although the release date for the show hasn’t been announced yet, other details like the episode count have been published.

However, this is not the first time that the singer has written for television. In 2020, he wrote and starred in an episode of the hit animated series “American dad” that was broadcasted on TBS. He also made an appearance as himself in the critically-acclaimed film “Uncut Gems” starring alongside Adam Sandler.
The Weeknd recently also dropped an album titled ‘After Hours’ and won praise after performing at the Super Bowl LV halftime show. A single, “Blinding Lights” from the album has become a major hit worldwide. The album has gained 7 billion global audio and video streams.
