This Is How Lin-Manuel Miranda Won His Wife’s Heart!

His rapping skills impressed wife Vanessa Nadal

When you look at the confident Lin-Manuel Miranda acing his performance in Hamilton, it’s hard to believe that he was once a shy, timid boy. But it’s true!

Lin-Manuel Miranda recently recounted how once, he couldn’t even gather the courage to talk to his now wife Vanessa Nadal. Here’s what transpired!

How Lin-Manuel Miranda charmed his way into Vanessa’s heart

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Lin-Manuel Miranda opened up about how he met the love of his life.

Miranda and Vanessa Nadal went to the same high school and even though Lin admired her, they didn’t speak for years. Seven years, to be precise. It was in 2005 that Lin slid into her Facebook DMs and invited her to a performance of his improv-comedy rap group – Freestyle Love Supreme.

Nadal was impressed by Lin’s rapping skills and came for a second show. “That was when she asked me out,” he said. “She was impressed at my ability to do this very specific thing.”

In 2010, Nadal talked to The New York Times about the exact same moment and said, “When he came onstage, I thought, I really like this guy… He’s really, really smart.”

And this how Lin-Manuel Miranda and Vanessa Nadal’s romance started! The two have been married for a decade and have kids – Sebastian (5) and Francisco (2) together.

Vanessa has the cheekiest response to her husband kissing his co-stars

While Lin-Manuel Miranda is basking in the bittersweet success of Disney’s film adaptation of Hamilton, here’s how his wife deals with all his kissing scenes.

”I always boo when Lin kisses someone else on stage, and people sitting around me look at me like I’m a crazy person #HamiltonFilm,” Nadal tweeted.

In a follow-up tweet, she jokingly wrote, “‘you missed the fourth kiss,’ reports Sebastian. He’s counting. Thanks, kid.”

Lin and Vanessa are holed up at their NYC home

Parents Lin and Vanessa are using the time-off to educate Sebastian about all that’s happening in the world.

“The hardest and most important part of being a parent is to imbue your kids with empathy,” Lin-Manuel Miranda told PEOPLE.

“It’s important to have conversations about what’s going on with our kids. We’ve talked, in a age-appropriate way, about the Black Lives Matter protests and what’s going on with the pandemic. He certainly understands that folks are sick and that we’re keeping him safe.”
