Viola Davis pays tribute to Chadwick Boseman by disclosing great things about him.

The late great ‘Black Panther’ actor Chadwick Boseman’s last film “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” is set to release on Netflix on December 18. In an interview with 60 minutes, his co-star Viola Davis remembered him and called him ‘an artist who gives himself over to a role.’ She also elucidated on his quality of leaving his vanity at the door.

“He was someone who had a quality that very few have today, whether young or old, which is a total commitment to the art form of acting. Regardless of ego, regardless of any of it. He was with the same agent he had when he started his career”, Viola Davis revealed in an interview with InStyle magazine.

Viola Davis reflects on Chadwick Boseman’s last performance

Chadwick Boseman plays the role of Levee in the movie. The character is the brainchild of renowned playwright August Wilson. His character is based on a person who is reconciling his dreams but then running from a traumatic past that ultimately swallows him. According to Viola Davis, “Chadwick Boseman gave an extraordinary final performance.”

Chadwick Boseman passed away on August 28 at the age of 43 due to complications related to colon cancer.

Viola Davis reveals that Chadwick Boseman was an observer of life

Viola Davis who plays the protagonist “Ma Rainey” in the movie was all praises about Chadwick Boseman. She says, “He was a beautiful man and a great artist. It’s like what Issa Rae said: He was ours as African Americans.”

She gave some relevant insights into the Marvel star’s personality. According to her Chadwick Boseman is an artist and not just an entertainer or actor. Stating the difference between the two she said, “An entertainer is someone who gives you what you want and makes money.” While “An artist has a lot of that imposter syndrome. That feeling like Oh My God, ‘Am I gonna be able to do it?’ And they should have those feelings because it is a huge leap.”

She uses a very distinct analogy to describe an artist. She describes an artist as someone who is “an observer of life who absorbs everything in and saturates it and when the character comes along they use it as an arsenal.”
