Zendaya, the 25-year-old “Spiderman: No Way Home” actress, just revealed that she won’t be attending this year’s Met gala 2022 due to work reasons. In a recent interview with Extra, she opened up about how she will be forced to once again skip the annual fashion festival held in New York City due to a very hectic schedule.
“I hate to disappoint my fans here, but I will be working,” she said. “Your girl’s gotta work and make some movies … I wish everyone the best,” she added. She continued by saying that she’ll also “be playing tennis”. “I’ll be back eventually,” she added.
Zendaya’s absence from Met Gala 2022 marks her second year in a row
Zendaya’s absence at the Met Gala 2022 marks the second consecutive year that she won’t be attending the fashion fete due to work reasons. In September 2021, she revealed that she wouldn’t be able to attend the ball due to colliding schedules with the filming of Euphoria season 2, her viral HBO Max series.
“My fans are going to be very upset with me,” she told Extra back then. “I will unfortunately not be able to attend because I’ll be working for Euphoria,” she added. The Met Gala was temporarily canceled in 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the last time the “Dune” actress attended the Met was in 2019, where she turned up in a glowing Cinderella ensemble.
What can fans expect from her Euphoria character in season 3?
Speaking to Extra’s Rachel Lindsay this year, Zendaya also opened up about her Euphoria character Rue other than her inability to attend the Met Gala 2022. When asked about where she sees her character in season 3, she said, “Ah, Rue… I would like to explore, I think, Rue’s sobriety and that journey for her and what that looks like. What the ups and down of that journey for her might look like because we see her kind of in the midst of it. Would be nice to see her maybe a little bit more closer to the other side.”
When Lindsay asked her whether her boyfriend and “Spiderman” co-star Tom Holland would be making a cameo in the upcoming season, she replied with, “Listen, who knows? Who knows?”
