Doctor Strange Actor Zara Phythian Found Guilty Of Abusing 13 Y.O. Along With Her Husband

The actress wept on the Judge’s decision.

Doctor Strange actor Zara Phythian and her husband Victor Marke have been found guilty of multiple charges of child abuse in a British court. Per documents provided to EW by the Nottingham Crown Court clerk, 37-year-old Phythian — who was tried under the name Zara Marke — was convicted of 14 counts, with her 59-year-old husband convicted of 18.

The child abuse by the couple occurred between December 2005 and December 2008, when the victim was 13 years old. At the time, Phythian and her husband were both working as martial arts experts. According to the BBC, a police interview with the first victim was played last month, at Nottingham Crown Court in the U.K., in which she alleged Marke and Phythian s*****ly abused her between the ages of 13 and 15.

“I knew it was wrong but I just didn’t know how to get out of the situation or say anything,” she said, per the BBC.

The abuse was said to have begun after Markes plied the girl with rum before Doctor Strange actor Zara Phythian “dared” her to perform an intimate act on her husband, which later turned into full intercourse. The victim was ordered “not to tell anyone”.

Marke’s offenses include indecent assault of a 15-year-old victim, too. In a video interview shown to the jury the victim told how the Markes “kind of instructed me through all of it (s***** activity).”

The actress wept as Judge Mark Watson warned them: “Both of you know the sentence I am going to pass is likely to be measured by a considerable period of custody.”

Senior Crown Prosecutor Nicole Hepburn, of the CPS, said: “This was an appalling case of exploiting a position of trust and respect to gain s****l gratification. Victor Marke ruthlessly took advantage of the age and vulnerability of these girls, as well as his status as an admired coach. He made them feel special and listened to and then abused them. Zara Marke similarly exploited her position to perpetrate child abuse.”

“Both defendants have denied their actions, instead blaming the victims and accusing them of lying. Thanks to their evidence, given clearly and credibly in court, the Markes themselves have been exposed as the true liars,” Hepburn continued. “It does take courage to stand up to your abusers and give evidence in this way and I would like to express my respect and gratitude to the survivors for everything they have done to ensure the Markes are held responsible for their criminal actions.

“This abuse may have occurred some years ago, but that makes it no less serious and nor is it a barrier to justice. I would encourage anyone who has been abused in the past to come forward with the knowledge that the CPS will take your case seriously.”
