Doja Cat Stops Her Lollapalooza Argentina Set To Help Distressed Fan

The singer is setting an example.

Doja Cat, who was performing her set at Lollapalooza Argentina, did not hesitate to bring her performance to a halt when she spotted a fan in need of assistance among the thousands of people, who came to watch her. The incident took place on March 19, not even four months after the Astroworld tragedy occurred.

The 26-year-old rapper was performing her song “Options” when she spotted a fan in dire need of help in the ginormous crowd. She stopped her performance midway and called for assistance to the struggling fan.  “Yo. Cut it!” she shouted out loud, according to the clips and videos that emerged documenting this incident.

“Wait, wait, wait. Wait, wait, wait. Wait, wait, wait. Somebody needs help out there. Is that right? Am I right? Somebody needs help?” she screamed. A section of the crowd waved and pointed. “I love you guys, I really do. We can’t have that happening,” she continued saying while arranging for the security and stage management to help the fan. “You guys over there in that circle that just signaled to me, when everything’s OK, you just go like this,” she continued. “Just do that, OK? Just wave. If it’s not OK, then don’t do anything. But once it’s OK, just do something with your hands like this. I can’t keep going if things aren’t good,” she added.

While all of this was happening, her backup dancers and band waited for her to say whether it was safe to continue.

Doja Cat also took this Lollapalooza Argentina moment to address the fans about crowd safety. “It’s nobody’s fault – these things happen, there’s a lot of people and people get crushed. It’s a lot. If you could see the point of view that I’m seeing it from, it’s a lot of people,” she said. “Don’t get sad or upset – I’ll be back, I will. I promise,” she assured the fans.

Indeed, it was not moments before the singer was back again and was finally given the green signal to continue with her set. Doja Cat concluded her Lollapalooza Argentina performance with a mind-blowing rendition of ‘Say So’.

Other musicians who have been actively following crowd control protocols

Musicians have been taking extra precautions regarding crowd control, ever since the Astroworld incident took place in November 2021 when a lot of concert-go-ers lost their lives during rapper Travis Scott‘s set due to excessive crowd and irresponsibility on the part of the performing artist. Earlier this year, 20-year-old singer-songwriter Billie Eilish pulled the same stunt during two of her performances in Atlanta and New York City respectively.

“I wait for people to be OK [before] I keep going,” she said to the concert attendees when the first incident took place.
