The stars of Harry Potter may have returned to Hogwarts in the reunion special, but no one anticipated having a special accidental guest appearance. Eagle-eyed Harry Potter Return To Hogwarts viewers spotted a major blunder on the reunion show, which hit screens on HBO Max on Saturday.
During the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special, a childhood photo of Emma Roberts, the American Horror Story and Scream Queens actress, was used instead of the Hermione Granger, Emma Watson.
A fan pointed out the error, posting a screenshot of the photo, in which a young Roberts wears a pair of Minnie Mouse ears while eating breakfast, next to an identical screenshot from Roberts’ Instagram feed. “GUYS HELP ME THATS LITERALLY EMMA ROBERTS NOT EMMA WATSON,” the fan wrote.
In a statement to EW, producers of Return to Hogwarts admitted their mistake.
“Well spotted Harry Potter fans!” reads the statement. “You brought an editing mistake of a mislabeled photograph to our attention. New version up shortly.”
The special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts premiered on New Year’s Day and marked the first time that most of the cast members had been together since the epic film franchise wrapped filming.
In the Potter reunion, which started streaming on Saturday, January 1, Emma Watson, 31, discussed her childhood memories of the magical franchise.
Before she was cast as the brightest witch of her age, Watson was just a child whose parent was reading the books to her.
“I think I probably would’ve been about 8 years old. I think that’s probably when the first one came out. It became, like, our family thing,” the Perks of Being a Wallflower star told the reunion special cameras as a photo of Roberts, now 30, was shown. “My dad used to do all the voices, and my brother and I just became obsessed. We would just beg him to keep going.”
