Why is Grimes’ new song about Azealia Banks?
On Friday, while performing for a virtual reality festival “Splendour XR”, Grimes revealed that one of her songs was about her nemesis, Azealia Banks. She sang 5 songs, ‘Shinigami Eyes’, ‘Love Is A Drug From God’ with Chris Lake, ‘100 Percent Tragedy’, ‘Utopia’ and ‘Player of Games’ from her upcoming album ‘Grimes Metaverse,’. She has already posted small snippets from some of these songs on her social media account previously. The young singer’s performance was also streamed live on her Discord server.
As her fans enjoyed her performing the tracks, Grimes also gave them a little inside information about one of her songs. According to the 33-year-old singer, one of her tracks namely ‘100 Percent Tragedy’ “is about having to defeat Azealia Banks when she tried to destroy my life.” The story behind this goes back to 2018 when these two stars were trapped in a public feud along with Elon Musk and his company Tesla. In 2018, Grimes and Azealia Banks were supposed to work together on a collaboration and Banks later tweeted she was at “Elon Musk’s house alone for days waiting for Grimes.”
She later also claimed that the 50-year-old entrepreneur was introduced to w**d through Grimes and apparently tweeted about the stocks for his company ‘Tesla’ while on acid. These tweets about the company’s stocks by Elon further created a lot of mess and damage to some investors, however, it also provoked an 11% surge in shares of the company. These serious claims by Banks fueled a lawsuit against Elon and his company ‘Tesla’ by some of the investors, who claimed that Musk made false and misleading statements in his tweets. The court then ordered to subpoena Grimes and Azealia Banks to testify.
It might have been almost 3 years since this incident has happened, but it looks like these musicians haven’t forgotten a thing about it.
As soon as singer Azealia got to know about Grime’s statement about her new song, she instantly took to Instagram to reply back. “So you go make a bootleg @inna song about it. Yikes,” she wrote. “Grimes def has some psychos*****l obsession with me. I think it’s bitterness cuz she doesn’t have the musical capacity I have. everything she does is out of pretentiousness and it comes out like that … while everything I do is out of natural swag & geniusness lmaoo. Starting to notice all the weird undercover millennial racists hide out on discord,” she added.
Later on Sunday, Banks again posted a story saying, “really thought I did you a favor by not responding to that subpoena….., I just May happen to have all those extra texts/screenshots/evidence Laying around somewhere………….” however, it was deleted soon after. Maybe the ladies aren’t over their feud yet, however, they did not let these things stop them from giving the world more music. During her Australian virtual event, the ‘Genisis’ singer also performed some snippets from her next album, which will probably have 13 to 15 songs.
