Idris Elba and Michael K. Williams worked together in HBO series ‘The Wire’
Idris Elba shares a tribute post for his ‘The Wire’ co-star Michael K. Williams after his sudden death at the age of 54. The British actor posted a black square on Instagram with a caption, ‘MKW’ on Tuesday. The news of Williams’ death was confirmed by his long-time rep Marianna Shafran, who issued a statement on September 6. “It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Emmy nominated actor Michael Kenneth Williams. ‘They ask for your privacy while grieving this unsurmountable loss.”
Idris Elba co-starred in the HBO series ‘The Wire’ with Michael from 2002 -2008 along with other stars like Dominic West and Michael B. Jordan. The reason behind the suspicious death of the 54-year-old star is still unknown, however, according to some reports it is being investigated as a suspected drug overdose after Williams was found dead in his Brooklyn home on Monday. David Simon, the creator of ‘The Wire’ also paid tribute to the star by sharing a picture with him. “Too gutted right now to say all that ought to be said. Michael was a fine man and a rare talent and on our journey together he always deserved the best words. And today those words won’t come,” he captioned it.
Idris Elba celebrated his 49th birthday on Monday
The news of Idris Elba’s ‘The Wire’ co-star’s death came at the time when was the ‘Luther’ star was busy celebrating his 49th birthday. The British actor re-shared his birthday wishes on the story earlier that day, thanking everyone for wishing him. At the same time, his wife, Sabrina Elba, shared the sweetest post to wish her husband on his special day. She shared a cute picture with Elba and wrote, “Apologies in advance for how mushy my page is lately, but I love this man more and more every day. I’ve never felt so connected with anyone, mentally, physically, emotionally. Thank you baby for teaching me true love is real. To my life partner, best friend, my king, Happy Birthday.”
Another interesting wish that Idris Elba got on his birthday this year was from Warner Bros. official UK Twitter account. WB tweeted a birthday wish post for the newest DCU member from their UK account but mistakenly wrote his ‘Suicide Squad’ character wrong. They called him ‘Deadshot,’ a character previously played by Will Smith in the first ‘Suicide Squad’ movie, instead of writing his character’s name i.e. Bloodsport. The tweet got deleted instantly and got reposted with the right name.
Well, the confusion between ‘Deadshot’ and ‘Bloodsport’ is no new news to the world as these two were previously thought to be the same. Before the release of James Gunn’s Suicide Squad last month, fans thought that Idris will be replacing Smith to play Deadshot especially because of the similarities in the back life story and powers of the two characters. However, later it was cleared by the ‘Fast and Furious’ star that his role is completely different than Will’s and that he and Gunn had no intention to revive ‘Deadshot.’
