Jason Sudeikis To Star In ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ Table Read

The one-night-only event is set for Dec. 5!

Jason Sudeikis will lead an all-star virtual online table read of the holiday classic “It’s a Wonderful Life,” which promotes mental health and enrichment programs to children with special needs and their families.

The one-night-only event is set for Dec. 5, with a cast that also includes Mark Hamill, Martin Sheen, Mandy Patinkin, Lou Diamond Phillips, Phil Lamarr, Ben Mankiewicz, Ron Funches, Ed Harris, and Sudeikis’ real-life uncle George Wendt, who will play Uncle Billy to Sudeikis’ George Bailey.

Hosted by Tom Bergeron, the second annual virtual evening will pay tribute to the late Ed Asner and benefit The Ed Asner Family Center (TEAFC).

“My father’s passing has left an indescribable hole in my heart. For our annual fundraising gala this year, I want to honor my father’s legacy as both a legendary actor and a staunch advocate for people of all abilities,” Matt Asner, son of Ed Asner & co-founder of The Ed Asner Family Center, said in statement Tuesday morning. “I would like to thank Turner Classic Movies for partnering to support our effort to raise much needed funds for special needs families and I am eternally grateful for the support shown by our amazing cast. I would also like to thank MeTV for their generous sponsorship of this event.”

The late Ed Asner, who died this past August, will be honored in the event to benefit his organization.

‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ was originally released in 1947 and has since become an iconic holiday film. Originally starring James Stewart, Donna Reed, and Lionel Barrymore, the film has since been adapted into a live radio play, which was presented Off-Broadway in 2017.

The play opens on Christmas Eve as George Bailey (played by James Stewart) is contemplating suicide. Prayers for George are heard in heaven, and Clarence Oddbody (Henry Travers), a second-class angel who has yet to earn his wings, is tasked with saving him. Further on Clarence appears and shows George what life would be like for his loved ones and neighbours had he never lived.

The experience renews George’s passion for life, and his trials and hardships in turn spark an outpouring of love and benevolence in the small community.

Tickets start at $25, with commemorative holiday gift items also available. Also planned is a silent auction and a musical intermission.
