Kanye West Sells His Documentary Spanning Over 20 Years To Netflix For $30 Million

Netflix has acquired the sole right to Kanye West’s documentary for $30 million

Kanye West’s documentary is all set to release on the world’s biggest OTT platform Netflix and we can’t contain our excitement!

To give you an overview, Kanye West’s documentary will feature exclusive footage of his personal life and home videos. The untitled documentary will include the unseen parts of his life. For example- the early years of his career in Chicago and the death of his mother Donda West. It will also include his relationship with his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, his failed 2020 Presidential Run, and much more.

A source close to Kanye West tells Billboard, “The series will also deal with the death of West’s mother, Donda West, and the impact it had on the rapper; his personal evolution in recent years, his successful move into fashion design and his unsuccessful run for President in 2020.”

Music directors Clarence Coodie Simmons and Chike Ozah popularly known as Coodie and Chike have provided most of the footage for  Kanye West’s documentary. They worked together with him on “Through the Wire” and the third version of “Jesus Walks.”

The source continues, “Simons has been filming West since the 1990s in Chicago.”

Then he adds, “Their relationship will serve as the backbone of the documentary series, which will tell the story of the rapper and producer’s rise to success and fame’s impact on him as well hip-hop’s impact on popular culture and the world’s evolving relationship with celebrity.”

All the exclusive footage for Kanye West’s documentary will be provided by music director Coodie and Chike

The music video and filmmakers “Coodie and Chike” have been filming Kanye West’s movements since the last two decades. The source further adds that Kanye West  “has essentially given his support by allowing himself to be filmed by Coodie and Chike for 21 years.”

Kanye West’s documentary is set to release later this year, though the actual date is yet to be announced. Another source close to Kanye West reveals, “Netflix acquired the miniseries for upwards $30 million. It is expected to debut on the streaming service later this year.”
