“There are some deep, deep issues there but they’re solvable. So if you’re looking for marriage material, it’s possible,” says Gerard Butler’s Greenland co-star cum ‘therapist’ Morena Baccarin while talking to ET’s Lauren Zima. While filming for their action flick, the pair spent a lot of time together which gave Baccarin a chance to understand Butler.
“It’s a diamond in the rough situation. So you just chisel away at some of the roughness and you’re good, you’ve got a gem,” the Deadpool actress said about the newly single 51-year-old. Butler who has never been married spoke along the same lines, saying “I’m a way better person after my time with Morena as my therapist, definitely. I wouldn’t say I’m marriage material yet, but I’m definitely further along that road.”
Gerard Butler who split with his partner, Morgan Brown after six years of dating had a bitter taste of breakup as it happened amidst the roaring pandemic back in August but he’s not all about complaints.
“Family, friends, adventure, nature and spending time with myself, getting to know myself even more. The pandemic has been brutal, but it’s also shown some a lot of silver linings I think”, the PS I love you actor added on a positive note. The pandemic helped Butler appreciate his close ones and take some time off his workaholic nature. “I appreciate now so much more my family, my friends, and the connectedness of everything that I feel. Often if there’s a disaster, that’s when the world comes together and you realize we’re all the same,” Butler said before poetically explaining, “why we have to quickly develop a different outlook and appreciate taking away all the artifice and the crap in our lives”.
Morena Baccarin, on the other hand, is happily married to Ben McKenzie since 2017 but agrees with everything Bulter said. Baccarin who is a mother of two , says she’s “definitely less connected” to her phone and social media. Referring to Butler’s pandemic breakup, the 41 year old said, “I have not become single during a pandemic, which is a good thing. I don’t want my marriage to fall apart,” before adding the problems of working out something as big as marriage.
“But you suddenly realize that you cannot expect that person to fulfil you in every way that you were being fulfilled before with the outside world as a stimulation. So, you have to really be conscious of yourself with other people around you.”
She cherishes the free time she’s getting with her family that she otherwise wouldn’t and whatever she’s taking up, she’s “engaged in fully”. “I don’t know that I’ve ever been in one place for so long and that’s been a really, really nice aspect to it. And like Gerry said, just working on little aspects of yourself,” the Deadpool star said.
Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin play husband and wife in their movie, Greenland where planet killing comet is on its way to the Earth.
