It is finally here- Sushant Singh Rajput’s final film, his swansong, the trailer of Dil Bechara, which will also mark the debut of newcomer Sanjana Sanghi. Depicting a heartbreaking story of love and life, the film, based on John Green’s 2012 bestselling novel The Fault In Our Stars, feels like a fitting tribute to the impeccable actor that Sushant Singh Rajput was and always will be in our hearts.
The official Bollywood remake of the novel, Dil Bechara presents the story of Sushant and Sanjana Sanghi as two youngsters, Kizie and Manny- “two ordinary people with an extraordinary love story”. But they have a tragic twist in their lives: Manny has had a brush with osteosarcoma and Kizie battles the daily complications of having thyroid cancer.
But when they meet and bond over a shared love of music and movies, they begin “a funny, thrilling and tragic business of being alive and in love”. She tries to distance herself from him, so as to save him from the pain of losing her one day, but love has its own ways of establishing its reign without anyone knowing.
The official synopsis for Dil Bechara states, “It is the story of Kizie Basu and Immanuel Rajkumar Junior or Manny and explores the funny, thrilling, and tragic adventure of being alive and in love. Together Kizie and Manny embark on an on-off-up-down-sad and sweet profound journey into the heart of that crazy little thing called life. It teaches them what it means to feel truly alive and fall in love.”
Dil Bechara is symbolic in itself as it marks the last film by Sushant Singh Rajput, who gave stellar and moving performances in films like MS Dhoni, Kai Po Che, Chhichhore and many others.
Ahead of the trailer’s release, Sanjana Sanghi took to Instagram to express the mixed feelings of excitement and sadness she is feeling. “Nobody told me this is what pre-trailer jitters can feel like!!! Stomach’s RUMBLING and ROARING. I can feel y’all and him are with us. #DilBechara,” she wrote.
Earlier, director Mukesh Chhabra, who is making his directorial debut with Dil Bechara, had shared how he never imagined that he would be releasing this film without Sushant Singh Rajput. “Sushant was not just the hero of my debut film as a director but he was a dear friend who stood by me through thick and thin,” he wrote.
“He had promised me that he would be in my first film. So many plans were made together, so many dreams were dreamt together but never once did I ever imagine that I would be releasing this film without him.”
Dil Bechara, which will have AR Rahman’s music enveloping its beautiful story, will be released worldwide on 24th July on Disney+ Hotstar.
