Disney’s “Soul” Bags The Best Original Score At The Oscars 2021

Disney and Pixar’s ‘Soul‘ is an animated comedy-drama movie that managed to win 2 awards in The Oscars 2021. The film debuted on December 25th, 2020 in the United States. Despite the movie not hitting the theaters, it received numerous awards and great reviewsThe artists, Jon Batiste along with the Nine Inch Nails crew Trent Reznor, and Atticus Ross, gave Disney its 10th Oscar win.

“God gave us 12 notes. It’s the same 12 notes Duke Ellington had, Bach had, Nina Simone…. Every gift is special. Every contribution with music that comes from the divine. Into the instruments, into the film, into the minds and hearts and souls of every person who hears it. The stories that happen when you listen to it. The stories you share, the moments you create, the memories you make, man, it’s just so incredibly special,” said Batiste

Accolades Received by Soul in Oscars 2021

Soul marks Pixar’s subsequent win in the best score category in Oscars 2021. On the other hand, Disney has a huge history with the Academy Awards. Soul claimed the Award for 2 categories (Best Original Score and Best Animated Feature). The movie competed in three categories( Best Original Score, Best Animated Feature, and Best Sound). This win made Jon Batiste the second black composer to receive the award. The first to gain this honor was Herbie Hancock for Round Midnight.

Soul received numerous accolades apart from its nominations in multiple categories for the Oscars 2021. Some of the awards include Golden Globe Award, AACTA International Awards, Annie Awards, British Academy Film Awards, and Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award. The previously known Nine Inch Nails duo, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have already received an Academy Award for The Best Music (Original Score) when they composed for the film “The Social Network”. And also, not to forget that this is the fourth time a trio takes home the Academy Award for the best score.

The other nominees for this category were the movies Mank, Minari, Da 5 Bloods, and News of the World. Ross and Reznor were double nominated in this category since they also scored David Fincher‘s movie- ‘Mank’.
