Who all went “Yay!” and fist-bumped the air when the news that director Zack Snyder’s version of DC’s Justice League, better known as the ‘Snyder Cut’, will be releasing on the recently launched streaming platform HBO Max in 2021? We all did and so did, Justice League star Jesse Eisenberg, who played the notorious villain Lex Luthor (although in a relatively small capacity) in the theatrical version of the film. And now that the film’s famed ‘Snyder Cut’ will finally be releasing, Eisenberg is very excited!
In a chat with Digital Spy, Jesse Eisenberg opened up about his thought on the mega announcement and shared that he was “so happy” for that his friend Zack Snyder is finally getting a chance to get his “very, very specific vision” out there.
“I spoke to Zack a couple of weeks ago and he told me about it,” Jesse said. His latest film, Résistance will be releasing next month on digital platforms as well. “Yeah [I’m excited], because I’m friends with Zack. I’m so happy for him that he gets to release something he’s proud of. I mean, I can’t think of any other precedent in history where there was something of this scope. Because it’s not just about releasing the movie, but it required all of this… we call it post-production.”
“So it’s not just they’re releasing scenes that are finished, they had to do a lot of post-production and it’s such a big process,” he added. “And yeah, I’m so happy for him. He’s a great guy with a very, very specific vision and so, yes, I’m happy that he gets that. And he seemed really happy.”
Ever since Joss Whedon’s reshot version of Justice League released, social media has been calling for #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. And now, that the much-awaited announcement of the release of Justice League’s ‘Snyder Cut’ makes it official, director Zack Snyder admitted that he had zero inklings or hope that his version of the DC film will be shown to the public so soon.
“I always thought it was a thing that in 20 years, maybe somebody would do a documentary and I could lend them the footage, little snippets of a cut no one has ever seen,” Zack Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter.
“With the new platform (HBO Max) and streaming services, you can have something like this,” Zack’s wife and producing partner Deborah Snyder added. “You can’t release something like this theatrically, but you could with a streaming service. It’s an opportunity that wasn’t there two years ago, to be honest.”
