For a long time now, rumours have been afloat that actress Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has joined the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder. The possibility became more obvious once the Nebula actress was spotted in Australia, along with Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista who are appearing in the Chris Hemsworth film currently being filmed in Sydney. And after letting speculations run wild, Gillan has finally confirmed that she is indeed reprising her role in the fourth Thor film.
Karen Gillan took to her Instagram Story recently to answer some fan questions. Here someone commented on her new haircut and claimed how she is wearing a wig for her new role. Gillan quickly quashed the speculation and assured that it is indeed her real hair whose length and volume she reduced in preparation for her upcoming return as Nebula.
“This is the real deal! This is my hair. I cut it the other day in preparation for Nebula, so that we don’t have to get SO much hair into the bald cap, because I have so much hair it’s unbelievable! Like it’s just so thick,” she said in her IG story.
While she didn’t explicitly confirm her involvement in Thor: Love and Thunder, given the fact that she is currently in Australia and in quarantine for 14 days with the rest of the cast, it is obvious that she is not talking about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 which hasn’t even begun filming.
But Karen Gillan isn’t the only one who has secretly joined Thor: Love and Thunder
Karen Gillan has not been the only one whose involvement in the film has been shrouded in secrecy as actor Matt Damon too, has landed in Australia to shoot a film. He had a surprise cameo in Thor: Ragnorak, where he was the Asgardian actor playing the part of Loki in a hilarious play. If he is indeed joining the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder, it is debatable whether he will return in his old role or a new character has been carved for him.
As for those who are officially returning to the fourth Thor film, apart from Karen Gillan we also have director Taika Waititi, who will not only helm Thor: Love and Thunder but reprise his role as Thor’s new friend, Korg. Natalie Portman is returning after a long-time as Jane Foster, who was last seen in Thor: Dark World and will end up becoming Lady Thor. Tessa Thompson is returning in her fan-favourite role of Valkyrie, who was entrusted the leadership of New Asgard by Thor. The film will also bring a brand new addition to the MCU i.e., Christian Bale who is set to play the super-villain Gorr the God Butcher.
Following the major delays in the MCU, Thor: Love and Thunder currently holds the release date of 6th May 2022.
