Karen Gillan has an interesting slate of movies in the pipeline for her. In recent interviews, the actress opened up about all her upcoming projects — from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to Gunpowder Milkshake.
She even revealed the status of some of her anticipated projects (read Jumanji 4). Here’s all you need to know.
Karen Gillan opens up about her all her upcoming movies
In an interview with Collider, Gillan opened up about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The film is still in the pre-production stage, but the actress revealed what she felt about its script.
“I read that script with Pom Klementieff, who plays Mantis,” she began. “We read it together and we both cried and laughed, but there was full tears.”
“It’s incredible, I think it’s James [Gunn’s] strongest work yet with the Guardians and it’s just brilliant. It’s brilliant and it’s emotional and it’s funny and it’s all of those things that you want.”
Before Karen Gillan plays the role of Nebula in the Guardians movie, the character will be seen in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder, directed by Taika Waititi.
Meanwhile, Gillan’s Gunpowder Milkshake is releasing in the near future and deserves to be talked about.
Director Navot Papushado was all praise for her in an interview with Variety. “Karen is the perfect Sam,” he said, speaking about her role.
“She brought so much of herself to the role, and her insights helped shape the script and the movie,” he added. “She also embraced the tough, physical aspect of the role and all the training for the action scenes. Because of her commitment, we were able to add more elements and ideas to the action than we initially planned.”
Karen Gillan revealed she was drawn to the movie from the very beginning.
The script was detailed — it captured how the action scenes would play out. And the fact that the film had more than just action impressed her more.
“Just the title caught my attention, because, like, that’s a cool title!” she joked. “It’s just like nothing I’ve ever read before. The audience won’t know whether to laugh or cry. They won’t know what to do, but they will know they’ve never seen anything like this before.”
Gunpowder Milkshake releases on Netflix on July 14. Reports are rife that a sequel is already in development.
Will there be a 4th Jumanji movie?
As Gillan revealed, the status of Jumanji 4 remains unclear. “I actually don’t know anything about the next one. Nobody has spoken to me, so I think,” she said on Collider Ladies Night.
“But I hope they make another one because it’s so much fun.”
Don’t lose hope just yet! Jumanji is a wildly popular franchise, and it seems unlikely that Sony Pictures would let it go. Moreover, given the pandemic and all of the actors’ busy schedules, scheduling the film in the near future would probably have been a task.
