and that too from our homes!

Akshay Kumar is hailed as the torchbearer of the unconventional in the film industry. In his nearly three-decades long career, Akshay has never failed to impress the audience with his versatility, and his upcoming Laxmmi Bomb is a case in point.

Ever since its first poster was shared, Laxmmi Bomb and the role Akshay is essaying has been the talk of the town. Here are 7 reasons why we’re totally rooting for this one!

1. Akshay in a never-before-seen avatar

While we’re used to Akshay’s love for the out-of-the-box, his look for Laxmmi Bomb left us all pleasantly surprised. The superstar will be essaying the role of a transgender in the film. From saris to eyeliners, Akshay went all out in for this one.

“I couldn’t even walk in a sari, it was quite an experience for me. Hats off to how women manage it,” he said in a virtual press conference.

2. Remake of Muni 2: Kanchana

Laxmmi Bomb is the Hindi remake of the Tamil film Kanchana which was a big commercial success and was remade in many languages. An interesting trivia – Laxmmi Bomb was helmed by the lead actor of Kanchana – Raghava Laurence. Looks like Akshay’s film has the genes of a hit movie!

3. Interesting Plot

Laxmmi Bomb is a horror-comedy, a genre that is quite amusing but remains unexplored in Indian cinema. After movies like Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Stree, audiences were left wanting for more thriller comedies and Laxmmi Bomb promises just that.

Its storyline revolves around a man who gets possessed by a spirit. The ghost turns out to be of a transgender woman named Laxmmi who wants to avenge her death. Laxmmi Bomb seems to have all the ingredients of a perfect movie – entertainment, comedy plus a message.

4. Portrayal of Transgender Women

After Vijay Sethupathi’s stupendous portrayal of the transgender community in the critically acclaimed Super Deluxe, all eyes are now on Akshay. How often do we see mainstream heroes playing the role of transgenders? Almost never.

“In my entire 30-year-long career, this has been my most intensive role mentally. I’ve never experienced such a character before, with this kind of action, reaction, body language. Credit for this goes to my director. He introduced me to a version of me that I didn’t know even existed,” Akshay said about his character in the interview.

5. Laxmmi Bomb made Akshay more sensitive about gender equality

The movie challenged Akshay an actor and opened his eyes to many issues.

“This was the first time I willingly gave multiple retakes as we wanted everything to be perfect. Even after doing 150 films, I was genuinely very happy and excited to go on set every day,” Akshay added.

“It was also a learning experience for me as working on it helped me with gender equality. Also, what may come, kindness is the only key to world peace,” he added.

6. Akshay and Kiara Advani’s hit pair

Laxmmi Bomb stars Kiara Advani as the female lead. Akshay and Kiara were last seen together in the hit comedy Good Newwz and we are eagerly waiting for the pair to create magic on-screen again.

7. Digitial Release

While its release date remains unknown, Laxmmi Bomb will be released on Disney+Hotstar. It’ll be interesting to see how a superstar’s film performs on digital platforms. This may even be a turning point for Hindi cinema, opening new doors for it. Not to put any pressure on the film, but Laxmmi Bomb may just ascertain the fate of lined up movies, with the reopening of theatres seeming like a mirage.

We’re definitely catching the first day first show of Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb and that too, from the comfort of our homes. What about you?
