Margot Robbie Addresses Rumours of Her Quitting Being Harley Quinn

More Harley or no Harley?

Lately, many reports have been cropping up, detailing how Margot Robbie is done being DC’s Harley Quinn and James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad would the last time she appears as the unhinged supervillain. But has recently Robbie shot down these rumors and even expressed her plans on what she wants to do next in the DCEU as Harley Quinn.

In a chat with Entertainment Tonight, Margot Robbie established that while she has played Harley Quinn across three films (including The Suicide Squad) already, she doesn’t need a break from playing the supervillain (contrary to recent headlines) and it will be a long time before she gets tired of the enigmatic character.

“No, I’ve had enough of a break. I’m ready to do her again,” Margot Robbie said. “I did Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad back-to-back, so that was a lot of Harley all in a one year period, but that was a while ago now. I’m always ready for more Harley!”

In fact, Margot Robbie would love a future project where her Harley Quinn and Leslie Grace as Batgirl could star together. “She’s amazing,” she said. “Yeah, I’m calling– Warner Bros, can you put me through to DC? Yeah, thank you. I’m on it. Don’t worry.”

During her chat, Margot Robbie also explained in detail how different James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is from David Ayer’s 2016 released Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey.

“It’s not a sequel, prequel or a reboot, really, because some characters cross over that people met in Suicide Squad, the one directed by David Ayer, and then there’s a whole ensemble of new characters,” Margot Robbie shared “It’s its own thing. It’s kind of like the comic books. Depending on who the author is, the comic might be different, the tone might be different, it’s like that.”

“I think the main difference is the rating,” she added. “This is an R-rated film, and the humor is really pushing the boundaries, the violence is– Like, there’s sharks ripping people in half. But it’s the kind of violence that’s very, like, sensationalized and fantastical and so it fits with the world and it’s still fun.”

Apparently, the setting and tone of The Suicide Squad is not the only thing that is different from its predecessors as Margot Robbie has highlighted that though Harley Quinn has been in all the three films, her presence and presentation in the upcoming film is all new. While Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey saw the character’s life revolving around Jared Leto’s Joker, Harley Quinn is “not even thinking about him” in The Suicide Squad.

“She’s definitely independent from Mister J for the first time,” Margot Robbie said. “Even though in Birds of Prey, they’d broken up at the start, she was still very much not OK with not being with him. In this one, she’s not even thinking about him, which is really fun and just a new, interesting mindset and place for Harley to be in her life. She’s looking for new love, and she’s looking in all the wrong places.”
