Marvel Cinematic Universe + Shakespeare = Perfect Combination of Art and Action

Now, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is all ready to enter the world of Shakespeare. Recently, Marvel’s website posted a picture of its heroes along with the title, “William Shakespeare’s Avengers: The Complete Work”. The book will transform all four avengers movies into Shakespeare plays. The project is handled by Quirk books and is written by Ian Doescher. Ian has already penned “William Shakespeare’s Star Wars.” This sure will be a treat for the fans as it is the perfect combination of art and action together.

The website describes the book as, “William Shakespeare’s Avengers: The Complete Works reimagines all four films as plays by the Bard of Avon, complete with authentic meter and verse, stage directions, and entertaining Easter eggs. Fans will experience their favorite scenes, characters, and lines in a new—yet fully faithful—way, through monologues and dialogue by everyone from Captain America to Groot (’Tis I!).”

The book will feature a two-column layout and dozens of colored illustrations that cover Marvel’s iconic moments. Shakespeare’s Marvel will be available on 28 September and is already up for pre-orders.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has always been quite experimental with its movies and this would surely be a new turf for fans to experience. Marvel has always worked with different directors and storylines in its timeline. With phase 4 coming in, they have lined up a bunch of series for the fans including the recently released WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

How did the idea of an adaptation start?

This leads us to the question that when did Marvel get the idea of doing an adaptation. The answer can be found in 2012 Avengers when Ironman met Thor and uttered the biblical lines, “Doth mother know you weareth her drapes“.Tony Stark mocked the God of Thunder just before he brawled over Loki and the Tesseract in the movie. It seems that at that moment only Marvel Cinematic Universe took its dive into the Victorian Era.

Well, it would be interesting to see the modern-day superheroes into an entirely new dialect. With its witty charms and catchphrases, it will surely be a difficult job to convert the series into a regal language. Nonetheless, it would be quite interesting for the fans to hear Captain America’s “Avenger’s Assemble” into Shakespeare’s words.
