Nia DaCosta To Direct The Next Marvel Cinematic Universe Film ‘Captain Marvel 2’

Good News for Marvel fans all over the world!

Nia DaCosta, the Director of Candyman has been roped in to direct the upcoming installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Captain Marvel 2. The news definitely comes as good news for Marvel fans all over the world. 

Nia DaCosta launched her career through the critically acclaimed indie film “Little Woods,” starring Men in Black’s International star Tessa Thompson. The director’s next movie Candyman which is backed by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions has been dubbed as the ‘spiritual sequel’ to the 1992 movie of the same name slated to be released 16th October 2020.

The official announcement that a director had been chosen for Captain Marvel 2 was made on 5th August 2020. It was then reported that Nia DaCosta is the one chosen for the job. Following this news, Marvel Cinematic Universe registers a historic moment for showcasing diversity in its team. 

Nia DaCosta is not only the first woman to direct a Marvel film ‘solo’, but also the first Black woman to direct an MCU feature film. DaCosta now joins the likes of Anna Boden, Chloé Zhao who is to direct’ Eternals’ and Cate Shortland the director of Black Widow’ who were also handed over the reins of some of the most highly anticipated MCU movies.

The first film that is Captain Marvel had Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck as Directors as well as co-writers. The duo was previously seen working together in films like Half Nelson, Mississippi Grind, SugarIt’s Kind of a Funny Story. Boden has also been credited as the first female director of an MCU movie. The film preceding Captain Marvel 2 was released in March 2019 and garnered a total of $1.13 billion worldwide. 

Following the switch up in directors that Marvel is known for, fans are beaming with excitement to see what is next in store for the sequel. Now that Captain Marvel 2 finally got an official premiere date: July 8, 2022, fans are gearing up for the film as the director is sure to bring her style of film making onto the table which will be an invigorating change for the fans of the MCU universe.
