Robert Pattinson to be Bruce Wayne, the Caped Crusader, the part-time vigilante in Matt Reeves’ ambitious The Batman- though it has been months since this news made the headlines for the first time, speculations about this tightly-under-wraps project has been everywhere.
But pulling a neat Christopher Nolan, Reeves has been only sharing bits and pieces about his vision, all set to hit the theaters in October 2021.
Thus, in order to give your overloaded brain a much-needed break from wondering the what-why-when-hows of The Batman, here is all we know about the superhero venture so far:
- Both Robert Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult were up for the role
Casting had been narrowed down to Pattinson and the X-Men alum Nicholas Hoult before Pattinson was picked to portray the famed vigilante.
- To portray DC’s Batman, Robert Pattinson took inspiration from Marvel superheroes!
In an interview with Healthy For Men magazine, Pattinson shared that The Batman is one big opportunity that initially made him very nervous but then he looked up to the Marvel stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Robert Downey Jr. as examples of “the true warriors of the superhero genre”.
- We won’t be straight out inducted into a chaotic Gotham with Batman as its sole saviour
As Matt Reeves has described the story, the film will be “noir-driven” with Batman “investigating a particular case that takes us out into the world of Gotham.”
- And thankfully, we won’t be subjected to another origin story
The Batman will begin in year two of Bruce Wayne’s life, which means that Robert Pattinson as the caped hero has spent a little time as a vigilante but not enough to be perfectly refined. This one will be more about Bruce’s intelligence and presence of mind as a detective, than the kickass crime-fighter well-known in Gotham city.
- But despite being a novice at fighting, you can expect Robert Pattinson aka the new Batman to flaunt some cool hand-to-hand combat moves
In order to prepare for his role, Pattinson has trained in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, under the tutelage of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu red and black belt athlete Rigan Machado. Machado has worked with the likes of Keanu Reeves, Vin Diesel, Ashton Kutcher, and Charlie Hunnam as well.
- Robert Pattinson will be putting his own spin on the iconic Batman voice
In an interview with Access Hollywood, Pattinson had shared that he’ll take cues from his former co-star, Willem Dafoe’s accent in the film, The Lighthouse.
“Willem’s voice in this is quite inspiring for it to be honest. It is pretty similar to the voice I’m gonna do,” he explained. “I think Batman has a sort of pirate-y kind of voice, I think that would really suit him.”
