Spider-Man 3 might see a return of former web-slinging actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield along with Tom Holland.
After the confirmation last week that Spider-Man 3 will see a comeback of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, who will act as a mentor to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker after the sad departure of Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame, and also that Jamie Foxx is set to make a comeback as the electrifying villain- Electro.
FandomWire has confirmed that its earlier claim that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are in talks to make an appearance in Spider-Man 3, is true. The leaks of Jamie joining the film has reportedly made Marvel studios angry probably as the collective appearance of 3 Spidys is supposed to act as a trump card to subvert audience expectations towards the end of the film.
While there isn’t any information on what exactly Spider-Man 3 will be titled, a title like Spider-man: Far From Universe might be apt considering that with the upcoming WandaVision series and the fact that Doctor Strange is getting its own sequel along with being present in Spider-Man 3, it is sure that there will be a further exploration of the concept of “Multiverse” which might explain how Electro’s arrival into Holland’s world will come to play and he might bring his friends along with him.
Dr Strange might be the one who will bring Tobey And Andrew’s Peter Parkers as a deus-ex machina, from their universes to help Tom Holland’s teen spidy to handle a whole group of baddies and defeat them, in the end of Spider-Man 3.
Tobey Maguire was the first Spidy to hit the big screen in the hit 2002 movie ‘Spider-Man’ directed by Sam Raimi who is also directing Doctor Strange 2, The successful film led to two more sequels in 2004 and 2007 starring Maguire facing different villains making his series a trilogy, A fourth film was all set to shoot but unfortunately, it ended there for the series as the Sony Pictures decided to reboot the franchise.
In 2012, Andrew Garfield starred in the series reboot called The Amazing Spider-Man which led to just one sequel in 2014 where Jaime Foxx first made an appearance as Electro. Sony again decided to reset Spiderman as the producers felt that the coming of age story couldn’t be further progressed with Andrew.
In 2015 a deal was made allowing a joint partnership of Sony with Marvel and Disney, which allowed Tom Holland to step in as the new Spider-Man, but this time his arrival was not in a solo film but in the ongoing Avengers series, in 2016s Captain America: Civil War, where for the first time Spidy appeared along with other major heroes on the big screen.
