Surprised That Robert Pattinson Is The Next Batman? Well, You Can’t Be More Shocked Than The Actor Himself!

“You do feel very powerful immediately”

After much speculation and delays, Warner Bros. officially ditched the long-overdue project of Ben Affleck’s Batman and took the decision to cast actor Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader of Gotham City. Many were surprised with the decision, especially the ones who still look at Pattinson as the pallid vampire, Edward Cullen, in the Twilight film series, even though more than 10 years have passed since the first film released. But no one is more surprised than Pattinson himself who still finds it hard to get his head around the fact that he is, indeed, going to be Batman in Matt Reeves’ upcoming reinvention of the character.

But the duration from him being asked to screen test for the role to actually landing the part was pretty tiring and trying. From fans speculating and some criticising Pattinson’s chances of landing the coveted role of the knight of Gotham City to rumours of him and X-Men star Nicholas Hoult both being considered for the part didn’t really help the actor in strengthening his wavering confidence.

“When that thing leaked, I was f—ing furious,” Pattinson revealed. “Everyone was so upset. Everyone was panicking from my team. I sort of thought that had blown up the whole thing.”

But even after everything was done and dusted, Pattinson is still in a state of shock. “It’s kind of insane,” he explained. “I was so far away from ever thinking it was a realistic prospect. I literally do not understand how I’ve got it, at all.”

Pattinson has even worn the Batsuit for a screen-test and found it to be pretty powerful and transformative

“I put it on. I remember saying to Matt, ‘It does feel quite transformative!’ He was like, ‘I would hope it does! You’re literally in the Batsuit,’” Pattinson explained. “You do feel very powerful immediately. And it’s pretty astonishing, something that is incredibly difficult to get into, so the ritual of getting into it is pretty humiliating. You’ve got five people trying to shove you into something. Once you’ve got it on, it’s like, ‘Yeah, I feel strong, I feel tough, even though I had to have someone squeezing my butt cheeks into the legs.’”
