Of the countless big-budget films slated to release in the summer of 2020, Christopher Nolan’s mystery thriller, Tenet, starring Robert Pattinson and John David Washington was the only one that didn’t shift its 17th July release date amidst the coronavirus pandemic. And after the much-awaited official trailer of the espionage thriller debuted in Fortnite on 21st May, it appears that Tenet is indeed “coming to theaters” at its pre-scheduled release date!
Tenet’s official trailer gives us a sneak peek into the mind-bending and time-warping adventure Robert Pattinson and John David Washington, as secret agents, will embark in an attempt to prevent World War III. The trailer offered more about John David Washington’s part as he will play an elite, military-type spy, and a master time engineer, entrusted with the mission to alter and save the future. Tenet explores the world of international espionage, where time warps- sometimes forward, with the tendency to move backward as well. The name of the film, Tenet, a palindrome is itself a play on its core theme.
Apart from Robert Pattinson and John David Washington, the Tenet cast also includes Elizabeth Debicki, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Michael Caine, Kenneth Branagh, Dimple Kapadia, and Clémence Poésy. Christopher Nolan also joined hands with his “Interstellar” and “Dunkirk” cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema for the film, which is being touted as the filmmaker’s biggest to date- Tenet’s production budget is in the $200 million range and the film itself was shot in seven countries!
Although the trailer of the film does not include the date of its release and instead flashed “coming to theaters” towards the end, the bio in Tenet‘s Twitter page now shows 17th July as the day it will hit the theaters. And nope, it is not just an earlier addition that Warner Bros. forgot to remove- the date mysteriously disappeared earlier on Thursday, before it was added again.
While the excitement about any Christopher Nolan film is usual and expected, the hype concerning Tenet is because it will be the scapegoat in the list of big-budget Hollywood films planning to release in July. If it manages to be a success, despite the sluggishly opening film theaters following the coronavirus lockdown and the masses’ continued apprehension over flocking outside just after the pandemic, it will decide whether films like Mulan, The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run, and Wonder Woman 1984 will boldly follow Tenet’s release or not. are all set to follow Tenet.
During the Tenet trailer premiere, Christopher Nolan also announced that he will be screening one of his iconic films at Fortnite Game this summer for free!
