The screening of the Warner Bros. film based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 science-fiction novel of the same name and directed by Denis Villeneuve will be done at the Sala Grande at the Palazzo del Cinema on the Lido di Venezia on Friday, September 3, 2021. The film was originally supposed to premiere last year in November, but the release dates had to be postponed to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and a few other reasons.

The cast and other personnel of the movie

Other than Timothee Chalamet, who plays the main character Paul Atreides, ‘Dune’ also shows off a star-studded cast that includes, Oscar Isaac and Rebecca Ferguson, who play the role of Atreides’ parents, Duke Leto and Lady Jessica respectively. The movie also features 24-year-old ‘Spiderman: Homecoming” and “euphoria” actress Zendaya, who plays the role of Chani, the protagonist’s romantic interest. Jason Momoa plays the role of Duncan Idaho, while Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista and Javier Bardem also make the film worth watching.

The screenplay for the movie has been co-written by Villeneuve alongside Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts.

A little bit on the plot of ‘Dune’

Timothee Chalamet’s character in ‘Dune’, Paul Atreides leads nomadic tribes who are in a battle for control of the desert planet Arrakis. Their aim is to secure the special spice that extends human life and also provide superhuman thinking prowess and makes traveling faster than light a possibility.

Will there be a sequel?

A second installment of the movie is also in development. The first part of ‘Dune’ featuring Timothee Chalamet will only tell the first half of the story. In an interview with Vanity Fair in May 2020, Villeneuve said, “I would not agree to make this adaptation of the book with one single movie. The world is too complex. It’s a world that takes its power in details.”

“No matter what you believe, Earth is changing, and we will have to adapt,” he continued. “That’s why I think that Dune, this book, was written in the 20th century. It was a distant portrait of the reality of the oil and the capitalism and the exploitation-the overexploitation-of Earth. Today, things are just worse. It’s a coming-of-age story, but also a call for action for the youth,” he added.

After it’s first premiere in Venice Film Festival, ‘Dune’ will hit the big screens and on HBO Max on Oct. 1, 2021.
