After Wonder Woman released in 2017, it shined as the lone star in DC’s cinematic universe and Diana Prince continued to be the only saving grace in Justice League and Batman vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice. So, it was only natural for Gal Gadot to don the cape once again, in the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984 all set to release in October 2020.
But isn’t the date a little too far to witness Diana deal with the miracle of an out-of-the-blue alive Steve Trevor and formidable adversaries like Cheetah and Maxwell Lord?
We know it is and that’s why we bring to you all the plot details and sneaky spoilers from Wonder Woman 1984 to mull over till then!
- It is not a sequel to 2016’s Wonder Woman
While in a way, Wonder Woman 1984 will depict a chapter in Diana Prince’s life, the film’s producer Charles Roven has explained an interview with Vulture that director, Patty Jenkins, was “determined that this movie should be the next iteration of Wonder Woman but not a sequel”.
“It’s a completely different time frame,” he explained. Thus it will be like a standalone feature like all Indiana Jones or Bond films which don’t focus on one continuous story stretched across many installments.
- Diana Prince will be an established, well-known superhero, unlike the ‘secret’ identity that was established in Batman vs Superman
It has been revealed that she will be hunting down a “nefarious Russian spy.”
- After 2017’s Paris, 1918’s London and war-torn Belgium, Wonder Woman’s next adventures will take place in the US
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Jenkins shared that the next movie “will take place in the U.S., which I think is right, she’s Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time.”
- Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah’s mutation to be shown as “practically” as possible
During a panel at CCXP, Patty Jenkins shared that they have tried to keep things real but eventually you get “to a place where you end up having to go a little further, and so, it’s got a little help, but a lot of it is very real.”
- Though the mutated look of Cheetah is yet to be officially released, we know what she will look like!
Merchandize centered around Wonder Woman 1984 has started leaking and the first look at Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah comes from an upcoming set of notebooks and a sticker pad.
As you can see, Wiig’s Cheetah very much takes after the comic version of the character- the iconic orange-brown spotted skin, feline eyes, and that classic deadly expression perfected to the T.
- Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot’s trip to watch Cirque Du Soleil has inspired Diana Prince’s fighting style in Wonder Woman 1984
Jenkins had decided that Wonder Woman as a fighter will not copy a man’s fighting style. “We need to fight like women,” she shared.
And after watching the performers, inspiration struck. “Patty said ‘This should be the inspiration for the fight sequences. I looked over at her like ‘How do I do that?!’. She said ‘Don’t worry, you never know how you do it until you do it’,” shared Gal Gadot.
