The last we saw our favourite (and perhaps the only) DC comics superhero, Wonder Woman, on the silver screen, she was busy fighting alongside the Allies in World War I. Well, the superhero is back, but the world she is here to save isn’t the same anymore- it is glittery, fashionable, and has pretty iconic musicians. Yep, you guessed it right- the trailer of “Wonder Woman 1984” is here!
The sequel to 2017’s “Wonder Woman”, director Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman 1984” is set 40 years later and with Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince a.k.a. the super-powerful Amazonian warrior in the middle of the Cold War. It has been a long time since the events of the first film and Diana is lost in a glittery, glamorous world and as Gadot told at the Comic-Con in Brazil that Wonder Woman is “quite lonely, she’s lost all of her friends over the years, and she’s doing what she needs to do”. And the ones she befriends like Kristen Wiig as Barbara Minerva, an archaeologist, end up channelling an ancient goddess known as Cheetah, one of the many sworn enemies of Diana.
Though not many details about the sequel have been released by the Warner Bros., the one-line summary provided by the gives us a glimpse of what to expect: “Diana Prince comes into conflict with the Soviet Union during the Cold War in the 1980s and finds a formidable foe by the name of the Cheetah.”
But the true highlights of the trailer are Wonder Woman swinging from lightning bolts and literally flying through the sky, looking absolutely astonishing in the iconic golden costume straight from the comics, and…
…the return of her lost-love-Steve Trevor!
The film will also mark the return of Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Diana’s long-lost love who sacrificed himself in “Wonder Woman”. Even if he did, somehow survive the explosion, no clue has been provided yet about how he still looks not a second older than the day he seemingly died. Well, it’s just one of the gazillion reasons to watch “Wonder Woman 1984” when it hits the theatres on 5th June 2020.
Apart from Gadot, Chris Pine, and Wig, Game of Thrones’ Pedro Pascal is also in the film, playing the character of businessman Maxwell Lord, another nemesis of Wonder Woman.
