It has often been highlighted that Hollywood is lucky to have a talented star like Zendaya join its ranks. Zendaya has already proved her mettle with her significant and memorable roles in films and shows like Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Malcolm & Marie, and of course, HBO’s Euphoria for which she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, thus becoming the youngest actress ever to win the prestigious title. And now, Zendaya is all set to bring yet another iconic character to life i.e., the badass warrior Chani in the upcoming Denis Villeneuve directed Dune.
Zendaya’s Chani in Dune comes from the fierce Fremen population who are natives of Arrakis. The character has very less screen time but will play a significant role in the overarching plot of the film. In a recent chat with Empire, Zendaya’s talked at length about her character.
“My part is very, very small in this movie and that’s why I’m so excited to see it, to see what everyone’s been up to. [Denis and I] had a little discussion about who Chani is and the strength she possesses. She’s a fighter, that’s what her people are. I only really had a few days with her, so I kind of scratched the surface but it was so much fun figuring her out. What does she walk like, what does she talk like? This is her planet, so how does she navigate this world? It was so fun,” Zendaya shared.
Dune will mark the first time Zendaya will get to work with the legendary Denis Villeneuve and according to the actress, her experience of the same has been beyond amazing even though it was for a very short period of time.
“He’s so kind and attentive to all of his actors. I was only there for four days and I did not want to leave! Denis understands what he wants from us but he’s also very collaborative, allowing me to have my take on the character as well. I don’t want to jinx anything but I can’t wait to explore her more. I hope I get to learn more from Denis. I love to learn from people who are great at their job,” Zendaya disclosed.
The synopsis of Dune reads:
