Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, Cardi B shared how challenging it’s been to film music videos with COVID-19 restrictions.
The 28-year-old rapper, wildly popular for her WAP video (released in August), treated her fans to a music video of her latest single, ‘Up,’ last week, which is the second single from her upcoming second studio album. The song has already gone to the number one spot on Apple Music and iTunes.
While the world came to a standstill due to COVID-19 pandemic, it affected all sorts of businesses. Among them, with ongoing pandemic regulations, it’s been especially difficult for the entertainment industry to function, keeping in mind the army of people involved to complete projects.
Shedding light on the same, rap sensation Cardi B opened up about the challenges she faced to shoot the video for her new song.
“Is it tough with the pandemic even to record a song, let alone do a video for it?,” Jimmy Fallon, 46, asked the Grammy-winning rapper, who appeared virtually on the NBC talk show.
“Videos, yes, of course. Because there’s certain things that you can’t do,” said Cardi B. “I did this pyramid with some girls. And the pyramid, we have to do it less than 10 seconds because it was more than six people. And due to COVID, people can’t be touching. Even though you get tested before the music video three times. You get tested at the beginning of the week, the day before, and the day of. That’s the extra money spending in production.”
She further added that “there cannot be more than 10 people in a room. It’s the craziest protocols.”
With WAP being a major hit, Jimmy was quick to question whether she felt “any pressure to put out another song.” Giving an honest response, Cardi B said, “Yeah, I do feel the pressure, because I haven’t released a solo single in two years. So I just want to go on top 10. And it is predicted to go probably number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. So I’m like ‘oh wow, I have exceeded my limit. I’m extremely happy.'”
While ‘Up’ is already out, is a new album on the way for Cardi B?
Spilling the beans about what’s next, Cardi B said, “I really want my next project or anything that’s related to music to just be my album. I just got to focus on a couple of more songs and do music videos.”
Jimmy also played a game called The Mimic Challenge with Cardi B. Check out the whole episode here:
