Katy Perry has given her fans the ultimate Christmas treat by dropping her most anticipated single, ‘Not The End Of The World’. And guess what? The new release has an interesting spin with Aliens mistaking Zooey Deschanel for Katy!
The music video for Katy Perry’s “Not the End of the World” dropped on Monday revolves around the visual where blue-skinned aliens abduct Deschanel thinking she is Perry, in hopes that she can save the world before it comes to an end.
However, Zooey Deschanel ends up playing along as she dons one of Perry’s signature blue wigs and costumes.

Talking about the making of the video, Katy Perry, in an Instagram Live with Deschanel, revealed that they shot the video four months ago and all of it in one day. She also shared that the meaning behind the new release is up to one’s own interpretation.
Explaining her interpretation of the song, Katy said, “For me, this time how it feels somewhat overwhelming and how we forget to disconnect and sometimes we need to just unplug our phones . . . but sometimes we just need to put our feet in the grass and we need to find balance and kind of come off of our devices and enjoy Mother Nature and all this beauty that she’s given us and take pause.”
The idea of having Zooey Deschanel on board came up while Katy Perry was on maternity leave as fans often mistake the New Girl actress for the musician.
“I had this idea that Zooey would step in while I was taking a bit of a [maternity] leave … for so long we’ve had this funny relationship … people think we look alike,” Perry said.
To which Deschanel added, “I’ve had full conversations with people who’ve thought I was you.”
“Not the End of the World” is from Perry’s fifth studio album, Smile, which came out at the end of the summer. In the weeks after Smile’s release, Katy Perry shared new videos for seven of its 12 songs in what she called “The Smile Video Series.”
Each song rendered a distinct style with different animation techniques. Following this series, Katy also released a video for “Teary Eyes” consisting of behind-the-scenes footage (“Behind the Smile,” as she labeled it), a video for a remix of “Resilient.”
For Katy Perry, this year has been an exciting one. Just days before the release of Smile, the songstress gave birth to her first child with fiancé Orlando Bloom, a daughter named Daisy Dove. Perry announced her pregnancy as only she could – by cradling her belly at the end of the music video for “Never Worn White.”
