Nick Jonas’ album Spaceman is now out, and it has come with a touching music video.
Hours before the release of the album, Jonas dropped the video for the track Spaceman. The music video sees the singer as an astronaut who is yearning to get home to his wife, played by Jonas’ real-life partner Priyanka Chopra.
Chopra appears in the video in hologram form and that simply adds to its beauty. When he’s not reliving the memories with his wife, Jonas’ ‘Spaceman’ is seen wandering to a desolate planet and counting the days he’s spent alone.
He tries to jet back home, but fails repeatedly. It is his love for his wife and the faith that they will soon be reunited that keeps him going.
Spaceman is Nick Jonas’ first solo album in a long time
Spaceman is Nick Jonas’ first solo project since the Jonas Brothers reunited in 2019. His last solo release was 2016’s Last Year Was Complicated.
Nick released the title track of the album on February 25 and even performed it on February 27 on Saturday Night Live, where he appeared as both, the host and the musical guest.
Speaking about the album to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Nick shared why he chose this title.
“The key for me was trying to find a way to give this idea a persona, give it a name,” he said. “So ‘Spaceman’ kind of came into my mind as I was thinking, ‘What’s the one thing that all of us have felt during this time? Completely disconnected from the world.”
The album and particularly the title track are deeply influenced by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As for how he recorded the video, Jonas revealed he made it while quarantining at home. “I made this album while doing what most of us have been doing this past year, sitting at home and hoping for better days ahead”.
The 11-song album explores the themes of distance, indulgence, euphoria and commitment.
“Writing this album was a way to process everything that was happening in the world, the distance between us, and what matters most,” Jonas wrote on Instagram as he announced the release of Spaceman.
“I hope you take the time to experience the album in full from start to finish and that you find solace while joining Spaceman on the greatest adventure of all…” he added.
