A new Rihanna album has been in the works for quite some time now, and the Rihanna Navy leaves no stone unturned in reminding the singer that they’re longing for her music.
On the first day of 2021, Rihanna posted two stunning snapshots from her New Year’s Eve celebrations. “New Year’s resolution: apply the pressure,” she captioned the post.
Most people couldn’t get their eyes off the superstar, who looked ravishing in a green shimmery two piece. “Top of the tier”, “It’s your world I’m jus living in it”, some comments read.
Meanwhile, her fans were quick to jump in and pester RiRi about her new music. “Resolution should be releasing the album,” wrote one fan, to which Rihanna retorted, “this comment is sooo 2019. grow up”.
The Work singer commented once again, writing “2021 energy,” alongside a laughing and flexed bicep emoji.
Stylist Jahleel Weaver also joined Rihanna’s fans in asking for a new album. “Speaking of pressure, it’s the album for me.”
“ph— u,” Rihanna joked.
When will Rihanna’s album R9 come out?
Music enthusiasts have been waiting for a Rihanna album for more than three years now. RiRi’s last album release was 2016’s Anti, her eighth album, which featured tracks like Work (with Drake), Needed Me, Desperado and more.
The hitmaker is taking her sweet time in making and releasing her next album, R9. Besides writing and recording, she has also been uber-busy with her Fenty Beauty and Savage x Fenty lines.
Speaking about her music in an interview with The Associated Press, the 32-year-old said, “You do pop, you did this genre, you do that, you do radio, but now it’s just like, what makes me happy? I just want to have fun with music.”
“Everything is so heavy. The world that we live in is a lot. It’s overwhelming every single day. And with the music, I’m using that as my outlet.”
The question of a new Rihanna album was further brought up in her interview for the May issue of British Vogue. “I can’t say when I’m going to drop… but I am very aggressively working on music,” the superstar said.
“There are no rules, there’s no format, there’s nothing. There’s just good music and if I feel it, I’m putting it out. I feel like I have no boundaries. I’ve done everything. I’ve done all the hits, I’ve tried every genre. Now I’m just, I’m wide open. I can make anything that I want.”
But every now and then, Rihanna does tease fans about R9. In December 2019, she shared a video on her Instagram with the caption, “Update: me listening to R9 by myself and refusing to release it.”
