Taylor Swift To Become First Female To Receive Global Icon Award At 2021 Brits

Onto the next achievement for Swift

Making history yet again, Taylor Swift is all set to become the first female artist and the first non-English artist to receive the Global Icon Award at this year’s Brits.

Taylor Swift’s glorious list of achievements now has another addition. Characterized as their highest accolade, the “Cardigan” singer will receive her first ever Global Icon Award at the 2021 Brits. Joining previous recipients Elton John (2014), David Bowie (2016) and Robbie Williams (2017), Taylor is also the first non-English artist in the category.

The award is given “in recognition of her immense impact on music across the world and incredible repertoire and achievements to date.”

Announcing the news, the Brits said: “Taylor‘s career is unparalleled and her music and influence has resonated with millions of people all over the world.”

“She’s used her platform to highlight many issues globally and recently has been applauded for her work promoting acceptance of the LGBTQ community.”

Taylor Swift may also be bagging another award at the 2021 Brits. She is also nominated for international female solo artist, an award she won back in 2015. Competing in the category are four other American artists Ariana GrandeBillie EilishCardi B and Miley Cyrus.

Taylor Swift’s achievements in the UK

Swift‘s success on the U.K charts is no less than in the U.S. However, the 2015 win for the international female solo artist is Swift’s only Brit Award to date, from six nominations. Nonetheless, she is the only female artist in the 21st century to amass seven No. 1 studio albums on the Official U.K. Albums chart.

What else is coming at the 2021 Brits?

Coldplay is all prepared to open the show for the fifth time in their career. Performing their new single “Higher Power,” the band will kick-start the 2021 Brits. Also included are performances by The Weeknd (performing remotely), Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, Griff (this year’s Rising Star award winner), Headie One, and Rag’n’Bone Man & P!nk with the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust Choir.

For the fourth cosecutive year, comedian and actor Jack Whitehall is hosting the Brits. The show will be held at The O2 arena, with a live audience of about 4,000 people, roughly one-fifth of the venue’s capacity.

Previously postponed due to the ongoing pandemic, the 2021 Brit Awards will now be held on Tuesday, May 11.
