Rebel Wilson Takes The Audience For A Hilarious Ride At The BAFTAs

Rebel Wilson served double the looks for her big hosting gig.

Rebel Wilson’s BAFTAs appearance this year became a night to remember for her gorgeous ensembles, her comedic brilliance, and addressing her recent weight loss.

Rebel Wilson served double the looks for her big hosting gig.

The Australian comedian, 42, arrived on Sunday for the 75th British Academy Film Awards in a strapless Giambattista Valli Couture gown with blue sequence detail, which was trimmed in black tiered tulle with a black satin bow detail at the waist. She accessorised her look with a pair of sparkling Bulgari Fiorever earrings in white gold with two pear diamonds, and 14 round brilliant diamonds as well as pavè-set diamonds.

Wilson carried a £1,760 Bulgari Cocktail hard clutch in black Papier nappa leather and wore a pair of custom black sparkling Jimmy Choo booties.

Rebel Wilson then took the BAFTAs stage in a plunging red sequined custom Miu Miu dress with padded shoulders and a ruched waist, accentuating her curves.

Although the Pitch Perfect alum joked that her BAFTAs hosting spot was “not going to be funny because I am no longer fat,” she took the audience for a hilarious ride with her jokes.

Rebel Wilson cracked a joke about Leonardo DiCaprio’s relationships while hosting the 2022 BAFTAs ceremony.

While walking around the crowd at the awards on Sunday night (13 March), the comedian approached 20-year-old CODA star Emilia Jones and joked: “I’ll give you the award for the person in the crowd Leonardo DiCaprio would find most attractive… He does like them young.”

This is not the first time DiCaprio, 47, has been roasted for his relationships at an awards show.

Rebel Wilson also drew cheers and applause from the audience at BAFTAs for a joke she made about Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Introducing Emilia Jones – the star of CODA, a film about a child of deaf adults – she explained that there were two interpreters on stage: one for American sign language and another for British.

She then put up her middle finger and said: “Luckily, though, in all sign languages, this is the gesture for Putin.”

Addressing her weight loss, Rebel Wilson said, “I might look a bit different from the last time you guys saw me here,” in a monologue, as an image of her hosting the awards back in 2020 appeared on-screen behind her and the crowd cheered. “This was me two years ago and since then I’ve done quite a transformation.”

While some applauded Wilson for transformation, many felt what was the need for her to address her personal lifestyle changes during the awards ceremony, which ought to be focussed on talent rather than looks.

“I’m happy for Rebel Wilson and everyone else who has managed to lose weight and/or become more comfortable in their own skin… but it feels really icky the way people treat weight loss like the most heroic thing a big person can do,” one social media user tweeted.

Another added into the mix: “It would’ve been pretty cool if Rebel Wilson could do something publicly without having to address her weight loss, wouldn’t it?” seemingly implying that this isn’t a fault of Rebel’s but highlighting how sad it is that this has become a societal expectation – that a person can’t lose weight without it being something they need to justify or comment on.
