Adjoa Andoh talks about why Rege-Jean Page has to take an exit from Bridgerton
Recently the news that Rege-Jean Page has exited the show Bridgerton appeared, and the fans do not look happy about it. Rege-Jean Page, a 31-year-old British actor, played the role of Simon Basset, the ‘Duke of Hastings,’ and married the first Bridgerton sibling Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) in the show. Page brought out the light in Simon’s character and everybody certainly expected to see the Duke and The Duchess again in the second season of the show.
On April 2, lady Wistledown announced that Rege-Jean Page has to take an exit from the second season of Bridgerton, and soon after that the fans started speculating about what went wrong. However, on Thursday, Adjoa Andoh, who plays the role of Lady Danbury in the drama series, has talked about Rege’s exist with E!’s Daily Pop.
“We’re following the overriding framework of Julia Quinn’s beautiful novels. There are eight Bridgerton children: one down, seven to go. Season two it’s Anthony Bridgerton [who is the focus] so there you are. That’s the arc of the show,” Andoh added, “We all love Regé and we’re all going to miss Regé but it’s not a huge surprise,” she said.
The second season of Bridgerton will solely focus on Anthony Bridgerton’s (Jonathan Bailey) love life with Kate. However, some time back a source talked to Page Six about why Rege-Jean Page decided to exit Bridgerton. “Regé is not coming back to Bridgerton because of creative differences with Shonda Rhimes and her team.” The source added, “He wasn’t happy with what was planned for his character for season two, which would have kept him a player but not the focal point of the show.”
On Tuesday, Bridgerton’s executive producer Shonda Rhimes dismissed these rumours in an interview with Vanity Fair and said, “There’s a lot of fantastically interesting talk that’s been going on, mainly ’cause I think people are having a hard time letting go.”
“I don’t know that I expected this much of an explosion, given that every book [in the Bridgerton series] is a different romance. What would be the ever-after of this combo? I mean, really: What would Rege-Jean do, you know what I mean? We gave them their happily ever after! And now we have this next couple coming. And so yeah, I was like, whoa!” she added.
