Courteney Cox On ‘Emotional’ Friends Reunion & Ellen DeGeneres As A Roommate

There are going to be a “lot of special surprises!”

It has now been over a month since the shooting wrapped up on the majorly coveted Friends Reunion in the format of an unscripted standalone episode. Since then, we have been waiting for some tiny piece of information about what the episode entails and should we sit down to watch it (once it releases) ready to cry a river. And now Courteney Cox, in an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, dished details about the special episode and how the reunion of Cox (Monica), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe), Jennifer Aniston (Rachel), David Schimmer (Ross), Matt LeBlanc (Joey), and Matthew Perry (Chandler) is going to be super emotional.

“[It was an ] unbelievable [experience]. It was so emotional. It’s an unscripted reunion, but we got to be on Stage 24 for the first time, all of us, in like … 17 years. [I have] the worst memory, [but during her time on Stage 24] everything came up that I [had forgotten] about. But it was great. It was really fun. We had a lot of special surprises, and it was fantastic. It really was,” Courteney Cox shared while passionately speaking about the much-awaited Friends Reunion.

Friends aired for 10 seasons, from 1994 to 2004, on NBC and even before the last episode of the final season aired, fans were demanding either a Friends reunion or a new show which furthers the stories of the six friends. But all fans got was the Joey spinoff series that sunk despite the presence of Matt LeBlanc. The actor himself admitted that he was expected to singlehandedly carry the legacy that was established by the six of them together.

In 2021, the plans for the Friends Reunion were finally put into motion, with the six cast members, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer finally completing its filming. As per reports, the cast will be reminiscing about their time on the show and sharing memories as well as anecdotes.

Courteney Cox shared one of her own memories on the Ellen show about the iconic fountain in Friends opening song and how it only looked like they were having fun when the reality was far from it.

“[It] definitely wasn’t [my idea but] somebody thought that would just be really fun… We were in that fountain for a long time. And let me tell you what happens: It’s not fun to be dancing in a fountain for hours and hours. I remember Matthew Perry saying at one point … ‘Can’t remember a time that I wasn’t in this fountain. Literally, we were just like, ‘Oh my God, how much longer am I gonna pretend I love dancing in the water?’ It was fun, but not really.”

But the Friends Reunion episode was not the only thing that Courteney Cox talked about as she also jokingly shared facts about her current “roommate” Ellen DeGeneres herself. The host has been stauing with Cox ever since she sold her Beverly Hills mansion and no, it’s not because she is having marital troubles. During the Thursday episode of the Ellen show, DeGeneres introduced Cox as her “Landlord” and the former Friends star was quick to correct her.

“I don’t consider me a landlord. I consider myself your roommate,” the “Friends” actress said, adding that she was nervous about DeGeneres staying with her in her home.

“I haven’t redone it. I haven’t been there in a year,” Cox said. “I had it cleaned. I moved everything off of the right side of the bathroom, so you’d have your space in the drawers. I was just really ready for you.”

But she jokingly added that DeGeneres is a “terrible roommate” who has occupied not only her allotted space but also taken over the area Cox is living in.

“And all of the sudden it was like, ‘Wait a minute. Ellen’s toothbrush is on my side!'” Cox joked. “So essentially you’re a terrible roommate. You took over my side and your side.”

Given that the Ellen host is still staying with Courteney Cox, we can expect more such hilarious moments from the duo!
