Ellen DeGeneres Talk Show To End After A 18 Year Long Run

“I was going to stop after season 16.”

Ellen DeGeneres talk show will be put to an end by the titular host after it’s nearly 18-year-long run, which turned controversially hot towards the end.

The Ellen DeGeneres talk show is easily one of the most popular interviewing programs on live television right now, but it seems the controversial titular host has decided to end the legacy, which runs over a whopping 3,000 shows.

Ellen DeGeneres, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, revealed that she broke the sad news to her staff on May 11 and that she will also address the end of the talk show on today’s episode.

On the today’s episode of the daytime talk-show, Ellen revealed that the 19th season, which will air next year, is going to be the last season of the Ellen DeGeneres show.

Why is the Ellen Degeneres talk show going to end?

Ellen DeGeneres told The Hollywood Reporter that the talk-show ending was a long time coming and it would’ve happened in the future or in the past.

But the sudden dip in it’s popularity, due to the controversy surrounding the show’s toxic work place has led to the decision to pull the plug off.

“When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged — and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore,” she told the news website.

Ellen also revealed that she had first thought about the decision to end the talk show back when season 16 had ended.

“I was going to stop after season 16. That was going to be my last season, and they wanted to sign for four more years and I said I’d sign maybe for one. They were saying there was no way to sign for one. ‘We can’t do that with the affiliates and the stations need more of a commitment,'” explained Ellen.

“So, we [settled] on three more years, and I knew that would be my last. That’s been the plan all along. And everybody kept saying, even when I signed, ‘You know, that’s going to be 19, don’t you want to just go to 20? It’s a good number.’ So is 19.” said Ellen with a laugh.

Although the show is not ending just because of its share of controversies, as Ellen explained that, “It almost impacted the show. It was very hurtful to me. I mean, very. But if I was quitting the show because of that, I wouldn’t have come back this season.”

The show made a comeback after Ellen had recovered from her bout with COVID-19.

“So, it’s not why I’m stopping, but it was hard because I was sitting at home, it was summer, and I see a story that people have to chew gum before they talk to me and I’m like, “OK, this is hilarious.” Then I see another story of some other ridiculous thing and then it just didn’t stop. And I wasn’t working, so I had no platform, and I didn’t want to address it on [Twitter] and I thought. “If I just don’t address it, it’s going to go away,” because it was all so stupid.”

Ellen DeGeneres also opened up about what awaits her in the future after the show ends, as she stated that she would just take it slow and easy.

“Look, I don’t even know the answer. I’ve been trying to think about that. I have some ideas, but my agent is just like, “Why don’t you just sit still for a minute. You probably don’t even know how exhausted you are and what it’s going to be like to sit still.”
