The Emmy Nominations 2021 are here. Much like every year, they are packed with a lot of surprises.
But fans couldn’t help but wonder why award favourites like The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Ozark, Stranger Things, and more were completely missing from the nominations list.
Here’s why The Marvelous Mrs Maisel and more didn’t make it to Emmy nominations 2021
It happened because to be eligible for the Emmys in 2021, episodes must have released between June 1, 2020, and May 31, 2021.
Given the pandemic, the production of all these major shows got postponed. This in turn pushed release dates and they couldn’t make it in time for the Emmy nominations.
For instance, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel season 4 was slated to release in January this year and would’ve made it to the Emmys if it were good.
But the pandemic pushed its production by several months, and they only began filming for season 4 early this year.
That’s a sad loss for sure, given how the comedy show always sweeps the Emmys. To date, it has won 54 Emmy nominations and 20 awards across its three seasons.
But rest assured, the show will very well qualify for Emmy’s 2022 nominations.
The absence of these award juggernaut shows will prove to be a blessing in disguise for others nominees
There’s also no competition from Schitt’s Creek, which bagged nine awards last year.
At the same time, shows like This Is Us, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Crown might give them stiff competition.
There’s also Bridgerton, Netflix’s hit period drama which released in December last year. The show bagged 12 Emmy nominations this season, including one for best drama series.
The show’s male lead, Regé-Jean Page, is continuing his streak of big award nominations and wins. He’s in the running for outstanding leading actor in the Emmy nominations 2021.
