On 5th December 2020, Thursday HBO announced the much-awaited production date of the Game of Thrones spinoff, House of The Dragons. According to the recent tweet, the Game of Thrones spinoff will start its production in 2021. Along with this great news for the fans, the page also shared two photos of the concept art for the series while captioning it “Dragons are coming”.
The concept art had two photos one with an orange young dragon standing amidst a misty forest. This orange beast has spikes from its tails to its wings and till his head. The other photo is with the close-up of a dragon’s face. The red scaly mighty creature is shown with an open mouth and saliva dripping from its teeth. The dragon seems to roar at someone. Although there was no name associated with the dragons, fans are guessing them to be Sunfyre the Golden and Caraxes, the Blood Wyrm.
The Game of Thrones spinoff, House of The Dragons is inspired by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin’s companion novel Fire & Blood. The novel was published in 2018 and the plot of the book was set 300 years before the original series events took place hence, making it a prequel for the fight for the iron throne.
Game of Thrones Spinoff Cast And Other Details
For the cast of the prequel, British actor Paddy Considine has been finalized to play King Viserys Targaryen according to People. The character is “A warm, kind and decent man” who aims to take the throne “to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy” according to Fire and Blood. But as the legacy continues in the House of The Dragons “good men do not necessarily make for great kings” hence it would be interesting to see how this is proven true in the series.
According to Entertainment Weekly, other key figures in the 10-episode series will be Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, King Viserys’ chosen heir; Queen Alicent Hightower, Viserys’ ambitious second wife; Aegon II Targaryen, Princess Rhaenyra’s younger half-brother, and Prince Daemon Targaryen, Rhaenyra’s uncle, an experienced warrior.
The Game of Thrones spinoff series is co-created by Martin and Ryan Condal along with Miguel Sapochnik who is the co-showrunner directing the pilot and additional episodes. Martin, Condal and Sapochnik executive produce alongside Vince Gerardis and Sara Lee Hess who has joined Condal as a writer on the series as reported by Deadline.
The prequel is said to be released in 2022. The series will mainly focus on the civil war between the Targaryens, tackling the Dance of the Dragons from Game of Thrones and the aftermath of the Doom of Valyria. In this part, we will see a war between Aegon II or Princess Rhaenyra for the throne after the death of King Viserys Targaryen. It will also reveal the history of the Iron Throne and how it was ruled by the Targaryens for centuries. Well, this prequel is sure to bring some fire, blood, and betrayal to all the Daenerys fans.
