AppleTV+’s star-packed series, The Morning Show, gave rise to a new streaming hit with major star power in 2019. And the Emmy-nominated first season saw once the Green sisters on Friends, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, join forces as co-anchors and executive producers.
The Morning Show trying to recover from scandal by making an unconventional hire, among other things, made quite a buzz, and the wait for the next season is over as the filming for the second season has commenced.
Filming scenes for their drama in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon were spotted looking chic in their business attires.
Donning the Pantone colour of the year for 2021, Jennifer Aniston wore a grey skirt suit for her character as anchor Alex Levy.
With her golden blonde locks falling over her shoulders, Aniston gave a boss-babe vibe in her powerful skirt suit by Salvatore Ferragamo, which makes for an ensemble fit for morning to evening wear.
The Friends alum elevated her look with a pair of matching grey stilettos and a belt defining her waistline. Taking her look to the next level, the slit of the skirt suit reaching up to her thigh made Aniston’s ensemble eye-catching.
Matching Aniston’s vibe, Reese Witherspoon was seen dressed in a navy pinstripe suit over a white blouse and black boots.
As per reports, Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon were shooting a scene where Witherspoon’s character (Bradley Jackson) dodges paparazzi before a meeting with Aniston’s Levy.
Speaking about the concept of this season, director Mimi Leder told Deadline that “the writing will reflect the world we’re living in.” That means the show will likely touch upon the COVID-19 pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement, and political division in season 2.
While the series regulars Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Steve Carrell, Billy Crudup, and Mark Duplass will return for season 2, the cast will have many more stars on board.
Per Deadline, Season 2 will have Julianna Margulies of The Good Wife and ER play Laura Peterson, an anchor at the The Morning Show‘s competitor, UBA News. Hasan Minhaj joins as Eric, a Morning Show rising star who hosted a Netflix news show of his own, Greta Lee, and The Spanish Princess‘s Ruairi O’Connor, who will play Ty Fitzgerald, a “charismatic and savvy YouTube star.”
In the final moments of The Morning Show‘s first season, Alex decides to expose the company’s toxic culture on live TV. “There are some really bad things going on here. The abuse of power, the corporate corruption, it has to end. We cannot accept a culture of silence,” she says.
The show ends with a shot of Mitch Kessler’s face, shocked to learn that his misdeeds have been revealed to America.
In an interview with Deadline, Jennifer Aniston giving her take on season 1 said, “in terms of where season 1 ended, because the covers were being pulled on the network. Alex has a breakdown/ breakthrough on live television, and for whatever reason, it’s like complete awareness.” Adding, “We’re entering season 2 with, okay, this enormous seismic shift has just taken place…now what?”
The release date for season two is yet to be announced.
