Renee Zellweger Will Be Seen In A True Crime Series ‘The Thing About Pam’

The limited series will be based on the brutal murder of Betsy Faria.

Making her broadcast debut, Renee Zellweger will be seen in the NBC limited series, The Thing About Pam.

The Thing about Pam, a limited series, will be based on a true-crime incident of the 2011 murder of Betsy Faria. The Thing about Pam is a collaboration project between Blumhouse Television, NBC News Studios, and Renee Zellweger’s Big Picture Co.

The series is probably the most high-profile package to land on broadcast in quite a while. And it also marks the return to broadcast for Blumhouse since the company’s very first TV project that aired in 2012- The River. A first time partnership between Blumhouse TV and NBC News Studios, The Thing about Pam is a major new scripted project under the counsel of Susan Rover, Chairman, Entertainment Content.

Talking about the project, Susan Rover explained, “When you think about what qualifies something as a ‘must watch,’ I’m not sure you could do any better than the undeniable trifecta of Renée Zellweger, Blumhouse and Dateline. ” She continued, “The twists and turns of this saga are truly stranger than fiction, and in the hands of this incredibly talented artistic team, this series will bring a completely new perspective to a story that has already captivated millions.”

What to expect from The Thing About Pam?

The Thing About Pam is based on the murder of Betsy Faria, leading to the conviction of her husband, Russ. Betsy Faria was fatally stabbed 55 times on Dec. 27, 2011. Initially, her husband, Russ, was charged in connection with her death, though he maintained he was innocent.

Russ Faria was convicted of Betsy’s murder in 2013. He served more than two years in prison before he was acquitted in a new trial in 2015. The conviction soon turned to the brutal crime set off a chain of events that exposes a diabolical scheme deeply involving Pam Hupp- a role that will be played by Renee Zellweger.

The Thing about Pam is written by Jessika Borsiczky (House of Lies), who will serve as showrunner. Jessika Borsiczky most recently wrote, executive produced and directed for the upcoming Netflix series S–/Life. She is also a consulting producer on the upcoming Netflix series, ‘On the Verge’. Additionally, she executive produced and directed Season 4 of ‘UnREAL’ on Hulu.

Renee Zellweger has been nominated for an Oscar four times, winning as Lead Actress in 2020 for Judy, and as Supporting Actress in 2004 for Cold Mountain. She has also won five Golden Globes and four SAG Awards.

Renee Zellweger’s only previous venture into television was in the 2019 Netflix anthology series What/If. Jessika Borsiczky had directed an episode of the series, which is where she met Renee Zellweger, leading to their collaboration on The Thing About Pam.

The Thing About Pam will be executive produced by Renee Zellweger, Carmella Casinelli, Jessika Borsiczky, Cole, Oppenheim, Blum, Chris McCumber, and Jeremy Gold. Blumhouse Television, NBC News Studios, and Big Picture Co. will act as producers.
