Retired Mixed Martial Arts wrestler and recurring actor on Disney + series, The Mandalorian, Gina Carano has been in the center of a controversy that started after a series of controversial tweets by Gina Carano to Democrats and wearing masks during this pandemic. Cara Dune, which is Gina Carano’s recurring and a rising character in the show, reprised the role in Episode 4 of The Mandalorian season 2, where she was seen again in the series, but unlike the first season where she had received a lot of praise, she became the victim of the Cancel Culture.
Why are fans unhappy with Gina Carano’s Return?
#fireginacarano started trending on Twitter on 20th November like a wildfire where everyone criticized her following tweets. She took a shot at the democrats and masks that are essential to be safe from the virus.
This was not the only tweet that got people infuriated; another tweet that she did was the following:
Users felt the accusations were baseless, and she should follow guidelines in order for people to go out freely without the masks.
People started trending this hashtag in order to strip down her role as Cara Dune in the Star Wars Spinoff- The Mandalorian, as people felt that she was Transphobic and Anti-masker. She added pronouns like, “boop/bop/beep” on her Twitter name which are gender mockery pronouns because of which she faced criticism about being transphobic.
A user also felt that Gina was posting dumb things.
One user gave this reply: @alderaansben: ‘It’s more than political differences. She is spewing hate and violent, extremist ideals, and aligning herself with white supremacists,’ adding #FireGinaCarano.
Sasha Banks, another wrestler, had featured in the show as Koska Reeves and the fans loved the idea that Sasha replaced her. Another actor that fans eyed for the role was Katee Sackhoff, who plays Bo Katan.
Even though the outrage was faced by her because of the tweets of liberals who are pushing the hashtag to criticize her for her views, the conservatives, especially the Trump supporters, are giving her praise for her beliefs, which puts Disney in a pickle. Disney wouldn’t just fire someone over political views. Still, the opinions about being anti-mask during the pandemic and spreading misinformation to the people will indeed incline Disney towards making the decision that will keep Gina galaxies far far away from The Mandalorian.
