Tyra Banks Announced As The New Host Of Dancing With The Stars

A day after Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews were laid off

Tyra Banks is all set to host the 29th season of Dancing With The Stars as announced by ABC Studios in a press conference on Tuesday.

The baton was passed to Banks, who will also be an executive producer, after it was revealed that veteran Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews had been let off from the reality competition.

Tyra Banks has previously hosted many reality shows

Tyra Banks’ prowess as a media personality is not unknown. The 46-year-old supermodel/businesswoman was a Victoria Secret Angel for eight years. She has previously hosted America’s Next Top Model (2003-2015) and the 12th season of America’s Got Talent (2017).

She even hosted her own talk show The Tyra Banks Show on The CW and won multiple Daytime Emmy awards for it.

“I’ve been a fan of ‘DWTS’ since its beginning … The fun mixed with raw emotion, seeing celebrities push past their comfort zones, the sizzling dance performances … it’s always transported me to my days of turning it up 10 notches on the catwalk,” Banks said in a statement.

“Tom has set a powerful stage, and I’m excited to continue the legacy and put on my executive producer and hosting hats.”

Long-time hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews were axed from DWTS

It was only yesterday that Tom Bergeron, who hosted all 28 seasons of Dancing With The Stars over the 15 years, announced that ABC was dropping him as host.

“Just informed @DancingABC will be continuing without me. It’s been an incredible 15 year run and the most unexpected gift of my career. I’m grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made. That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?” Tom, 65, tweeted.

Yet later ABC confirmed that Erin Andrews, Tom’s co-host since 2014, would also not be returning.

Andrews, 42, shared two photos with Tom Bergeron on Instagram and thanked him for “six memorable seasons”.

“Tom has been an integral part of the ABC family for nearly two decades, from hosting ‘AFV’ to ‘Dancing with the Stars’ – we are grateful for all he and Erin have done to make ‘Dancing’ a success,” Karey Burke, President of ABC, said in the press release.

“As we gear up for the show’s 29th season, we can’t wait to welcome Tyra Banks to our ‘Dancing’ stage. Tyra is an award-winning multi-hyphenate whose fierce female prowess and influence across many industries have made an indelible mark.”

“Her fresh take on America’s favorite dancing competition will surely bring more than a ‘Smize’ to fans everywhere.”

Tom Bergeron had become the symbol of Dancing With The Stars, and not seeing him as host will be rough. But still, we’re pumped to see how Tyra Banks will take the show forward!
