Sylvester Stallone Roped In For A Role In Suicide Squad As Confirmed By James Gunn

Rocky will now rule as a villain? We’re yet to find out!

The sequel of Suicide Squad is anticipated to do a better job than it’s predecessor that goes by the same name, considering MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy Director, James Gunn has left no stone unturned in lining up a star studded cast and none other than Sylvester Stallone has now become a member! His role however remains a mystery but it is speculated that he might give his voice to ‘King Shark’ or be seen as a villain joining the likes of Bloodsport played by Idris Elba, T.D.K portrayed by Nathan Fillian and John Cena as Peacemaker. Having previously worked in a short sequence with James Gunn in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, it is also possible that he’s only here for a cameo considering his late casting but nothing can be said as Gunn is full of surprises! Taking to Instagram, the director confirmed the news with a selfie of the duo, the caption of which read “Always love working with my friend @officiallystallone and our work today on #TheSuicideSquad was no exception. Despite Sly being an iconic movie star, most people still don’t have any idea what an amazing actor this guy is.” Oh trust us James, we do.

Sylvester Stallone added fire to the buzz by posting a screenshot of Deadline’s report about his addition to The Suicide Squad cast. In his caption, he said that working with this ‘incredible director’ (referring to James Gunn) on this ‘astounding project’ has made this ‘an amazing year’. Well, let’s hope the project doesn’t see the same fate as its widely panned 2016’s prequel and does turn out to be ‘astounding’!

The Suicide Squad will hit the theatres in August 2021 and will see fewer appearances from its previous movie. Of the ones reprising their roles are Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag. Michael Rooker, comedian Pete Davidson, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Watiti and Storm Reid will also make an appearance. Warner Bros Pictures had released a DC FanDome exclusive sneak peek in August this year wherein Gunn says “it’s going to be different from any superhero movie ever made”. The video features enthralling action packed clips from the movie, few interesting ones from the shooting and The Suicide Squad cast speaking talking about their experience. Guess we’ll have to take his word for it!

Stallone rose to stardom for his self created role, Rocky Balboa, an underdog boxer who fights brutal opponents in the movie Rocky (1976) following which, he was deemed a fitness icon. At the age of 74, he still manages to garner attention for his impeccable physique and action sequences. His upcoming movie directed by Julius Avery, Samaritan, will see him playing the lead role as a superhero, Stanley Kominski in 2021. Sylvester Stallone, an actor with a great persona and impactful screen appearance, it’ll be interesting to see him reunite with James Gunn for The Suicide Squad.
