Kim Kardashian stole the spotlight at the Met Gala 2021 red carpet in a complete undercover Balenciaga Haute Couture outfit in ways unexpected. She was the biggest contributor to this year’s Met Gala meme fest.
The Keeping Up With Kardashians star wore an all-black outfit created by Demna Gvasalia, the creative director of Balenciaga.
Kardashian’s stark black Balenciaga haute couture gown with matching mask and a floor-sweeping train was unlike anything Kardashian—or anyone else—has worn to the Met before. She accessorized it with heels and wore her hair in the longest floor-length ponytail.
“We went for a 75” floor-length pony to complete the look,” said Chris Appleton, the man responsible, in a statement released by ColorWow.
While Kim Kardashian surely stole the spotlight with her incognito look, becoming the talk of the town, her ensemble also had a Kanye West connect.
Kardashian’s Met Gala look seems to be inspired by her husband Kanye West, who featured himself in a faceless mask in his latest studio album ‘Donda.’
But the look attracted plenty of memes with dark humor. Kardashian’s Met Gala 2021 look was compared with a crow, Dementors from Harry Potter, and what not.
And this was not it. Kimye fans were sent into a frenzy after a mystery man in a masked ensemble, who looked eerily similar to Kanye West, accompanied Kim Kardashian at the 2021 Met Gala on Monday, Sept. 13.
With the pictures surfacing on the internet from the Gala, many believed Kanye made a surprise appearance at the fashion extravaganza.
However, the person standing by the KKW Beauty founder’s side in an incognito look was none other than designer Demna Gvasalia, who is the creative director of Balenciaga.
Kim Kardashian has been pulling off may monochrome looks this past week. A day prior, she wore an all leather suit that covered her from head to toe in matching pants, gloves, and stiletto boots ahead of the Met Gala. For this outing too, Kim covered her face completely with a leather face mask which had a zipper in the front and only her hair showed. The reality TV star paired the look with high black boots and a ponytail.
This outfit choice too made her the target of social media memes.
Kim’s love for trails seems to have been taking over the week. Before arriving in NYC for the event, she attended a dinner in Malibu wearing yet another subversive all-black look from Gvasalia’s fall/winter 2020 collection. This time, the makeup mogul channeled The Matrix with a one-sleeved asymmetric wrap dress, opera gloves, and stiletto heels topped off with futuristic shades.
She shared pictures of her look writing: “These kids always riding on my coattails 🖤”
