The wait is over. Our beloved Gigi Hadid is back to work doing the best that she does – rocking the runway. Months after giving birth to her first baby, Khai, whom she shares with boyfriend Zayn Malik, Gigi Hadid has made her runway return.
Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid at Milan Fashion Week 2021
The 25-year-old walked for Versace’s AW21 show for Milan Fashion Week, alongside her sister Bella Hadid, on Friday, and boy! what a return it was.
Looking fierce with her dark-blonde hair falling over her shoulders, Gigi opened the show holding a red bag teamed with a black overcoat and chunky platform heeled boots. The fashionista looked incredible as ever showing off her post-partum figure walking down the runway in a virtual pre-recorded show released on YouTube.
For her second look, Gigi wore a dreamy sheer chiffon dress from Versace’s Fall 2021 collection, which was emblazoned with Italian designer’s signature Greca motif. While the top half of the dress clung to Gigi’s slender figure, the floor-length skirt came complete with a thigh-high slit and a dramatic train, which Gigi flicked into the air when the camera was on her. Adding an element of drama to her ensemble Gigi also wore a silk headscarf.
The fashion week represents a full-circle moment for the model. Gigi Hadid recently revealed that she found out about her pregnancy moments before walking in a show last year.
Milan Fashion Week 2021
The fashion-forward show was recorded on March 1 in the Italian city at the Milan Congress Center.
On the Versace YouTube page, the show is described, “Enter a labyrinth inspired by our iconic Greca motif and meet our new signature print. The iconic Greca is reinvented for Fall-Winter 2021 as a dynamic and immersive 3D maze that feels like you can step right into it. The new Versace La Greca code features the Greek Key along with the Versace logo in various sizes and color combinations. The geometric pattern has sharp angles, clean lines, and a strong palette that represents power and self-confidence.”
Meanwhile, Bella Hadid turned heads with her dark brown long tresses with a black bandana and a fuchsia-coloured mini dress. She amped up the drama with her bold eyeliner, matching tights with the same motif on Gigi’s dress.
On Instagram, Bella shared a behind-the-scenes look at the colossal production, including a massive set with a labyrinth-like design.
‘Supers’ Irina Shayk and Precious Lee also stomped the pre-filmed runway in the luxurious collection.
Amid the ongoing pandemic, designers have had to think of new ways to showcase their clothes while keeping up with current health and safety guidelines.
Debuting the collection on Instagram, Versace wrote: “The new Versace La Greca code features the Greek Key along with the Versace logo in various sizes and colour combinations. The geometric pattern has sharp angles, clean lines and a strong palette that represents power and self-confidence.”
Speaking of her vision for the show Donatella told Vogue: “Models are like actors, they bring the designs to life, just like when a performer portrays a character. During the filming of this show, I saw how important it is to give the models time to ‘feel’ the clothes they wear on the runway. Despite living in a digital era of immediacy, taking this time is crucial to form a genuine connection. This is what the present and future look like to me.”
