Kheer has been part of celebrations throughout history. In different shapes and forms, it has served millions of happy mouths. Its ‘sweetness’ is synonymous with the joy we feel during festivals and other moments of happiness. Today’s kheer recipe a special one curated for people on fasts or who love the dessert but not its carb dependence, this dish serves as a solution to both. 

Serve Makhane ki kheer, right after dinner. And we assure the satisfaction eaters have after this. 

So, here we have the 6th Vrat recipe in our 9-day Vrat recipe edition. 

Recipe: A delicious dessert made of milk with lotus seeds and garnished with nuts and cardamom. 

Ingredients of Low Fat Makhana Kheer

1 Litre Milk

1/4 cup Makhana (puffed lotus seeds)

2 tbsp Sugar

2 tsp Pistachios, chopped

2 tsp Almonds, chopped

1 tsp Green cardamom powder (optional)

How to Make Low Fat Makhana Kheer?

  1. In a vessel with depth, pour the milk, crush the makhana(s) (fox nut) into smaller pieces.
  2. Add them in the milk and let it heat at a low flame for about 1½ to 2 hours without a lid, till the seeds are soft, milk has boiled down. 
  3. Add sugar or substitute (for instance, Honey) and stir for a few minutes.
  4. Add some cut pistachios, sliced almonds and a little bit of cardamom powder, stir well once again.
  5. And the best part?

Serve it as per your liking, cold or hot. Here is a video for you to understand the recipe better.
